US Special Envoy for Yemen Tim Lenderking is traveling to the Gulf this week to advance ongoing UN-led peace efforts in Yemen and support regional coordination to reach a durable end to the conflict, announced the US State Department on Monday.

“The United States is committed to securing a peaceful resolution to the Yemen conflict. We are working closely with our partners to support peace efforts under UN auspices and alleviate the immense suffering the conflict has caused,” it said in a statement.

“Lenderking will meet with Yemeni, Saudi, Omani, Emirati and other international partners to discuss the necessary steps to secure a durable ceasefire and launch an inclusive, political process led by the UN, while ensuring continued efforts to ease the economic crisis and suffering of Yemenis,” it added.

“He will emphasize this is a moment of opportunity for Yemenis to end the Yemen conflict and move toward peace. Wider regional conflict risks undermining peace in Yemen,” it stated.
