Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani inaugurated on Tuesday the 44th Gulf Cooperation Council summit in Doha affirming his genuine confidence in the capability of Gulf nations in contributing to resolutions of regional crises.
The Emir said that the summit convened amid an ongoing tragedy and unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe in the Gaza Strip, adding that inaction by the international community in halting the conflict was "shameful".
Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad stressed that the principle of self-defense does not apply to Israel and does not allow the crimes of genocide committed by Israel. He condemned the targeting of civilians of all nationalities and religions.
He said that Israel violated humanitarian and moral standards in Gaza, targeting the fragile infrastructure and cutting off all vital supplies. He renewed the call for an international investigation into the massacres committed by Israel.

The Emir underscored that tragedies could have been avoided if Israel realized the right of the Palestinians to their state. The Gaza issue is not separate but requires an end to the occupation on Palestinian territories, he stated.
He said that Israel must be forced to return to credible negotiations for a two-state solution. The negotiations should not be open without a time limit.
Al-Thani concluded saying that efforts are ongoing to renew (the truce) and to alleviate the burden of the people in the Gaza Strip, but truces are not an alternative for a comprehensive ceasefire.

Dr. Maad Al-Saati, Head of the Orthopedic Surgery Department at Dr. Sulaiman Al Habib Hospital in Riyadh, confirmed that medical teams successfully treated with high efficiency and in record time people wounded in the attack on Riyadh’s King Khalid International Airport.

Regarding the protocol for handling the injured upon their arrival at the hospital, Al-Saati told Asharq Al-Awsat that cases were classified into three main categories under a precise triage system.

The first comprised critical and severe cases, which were handled with immediate precision by a specialized emergency center; urgent examinations and surgeries were performed directly to save the lives of all those requiring such intervention.

He noted that moderate cases received initial treatment in the emergency department immediately upon arrival before being transferred directly to the operating room. Meanwhile, mild cases received the necessary treatment solely within the emergency department and were cleared for discharge after ensuring their health conditions were stable.

25 surgeries in 10 hours

He revealed that within just ten hours of the attack, 25 surgeries were performed covering various injuries.

All surgeries were successful, with the cases affected by shrapnel and various wounds handled in a smooth and professional manner, he added.

Regarding the current medical status of the injured, Al-Saati said that only two cases remain under intensive care, while the remaining patients have been transferred to designated inpatient wards.

Many cases have achieved full recovery, while others will require more surgeries, he revealed.

The team acted with high efficiency and in record time according to international standards, he stressed.

Al-Saati expressed his gratitude and appreciation for the full and continuous support of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz and Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, for their gracious and comprehensive care of the sick and injured of all nationalities following the attack.

United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk condemned on Monday the repeated attacks carried out by the Houthis on airports in Saudi Arabia.

“I am appalled by the repeated attacks over the past few days by the Houthis on airports in Saudi Arabia, which have killed and injured dozens of Saudis and foreign nationals, notably the horrific attack on Riyadh’s main airport,” he said in a statement.

“Attacks on civilians and civilian infrastructure are prohibited under international humanitarian law. These attacks and other alleged violations by all parties to this conflict must be investigated, and those found responsible held to account,” he added.

“The disastrous toll of this conflict on civilians, both in Yemen and in Saudi Arabia, is a reminder to all parties that continued fighting will only unleash further misery with no end in sight,” he warned.

“In addition to the duty to respect the principles of distinction and proportionality, all parties have the obligation, under international humanitarian law, to take constant care to spare civilians. I urge them to de-escalate and avert further catastrophe,” he stressed.

In remarks carried by the Saudi Press Agency, he stressed: “The terrorist Houthi militia's targeting of civilian facilities and the killing of innocent people, including worshippers heading to the Grand Mosque and the Prophet's Mosque, is among the gravest of crimes for which Allah Almighty has threatened painful punishment.”

“Throughout history, no one has followed the path of this criminal gang in targeting holy sites and those heading to the Sacred House of Allah without facing destruction and dire consequences,” he added.

“We ask Allah Almighty to put an end to these criminals and protect our country and Muslim countries,” he said.
