Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan said on Tuesday that the bitter reality in the Gaza Strip will affect international security and the credibility of United Nations bodies, by allowing the selective implementation of international law.
Bin Farhan attended the meeting on the situation of human rights in Palestine and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, along with members of the ministerial committee assigned by the extraordinary joint Arab and Islamic summit, and a number of countries, in Geneva.
In his address, the minister said that commemorating the 75th anniversary of the Declaration coincides with the painful human rights situation in occupied Palestine.
He added that the situation in Palestine reflects the clear violations of international humanitarian law and the Geneva Conventions, expressing Saudi Arabia’s condemnation of the atrocities committed by Israel, which contravene the basic principles of human rights.
Bin Farhan emphasized the Kingdom’s rejection of the continuation of this suffering, and its support for the position of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights calling for an immediate ceasefire, and the need for Israel to secure the basic needs of the people of Gaza. He also stressed the importance of granting the Palestinians the right to a decent life, security, access to basic necessities, and self-determination.
The Saudi Foreign Minister called on the international community to believe in the importance of respecting and promoting human rights through multilateral cooperation, in times of peace and war.
He pointed out that Saudi Arabia continues to call for an immediate ceasefire, ensure the safe passage of sufficient aid to enter the Gaza Strip, release all civilian hostages, and create a reliable path to a just and sustainable peace.
