Naomi Campbell's Enduring Fashion Career Will Be Celebrated with a London Museum Exhibition

After four decades in fashion, the queen of the catwalk is getting her own exhibition.The Victoria and Albert Museum in London is launching “NAOMI: In Fashion,” a celebration of Naomi Campbell's enduring career. The exhibition, which opens in June, will showcase memorable designer outfits worn by Campbell, one of the most recognizable models and Black women in the world, The Associated Press said.“I’m honored to be asked by the V&A to share my life in clothes with the world," Campbell, 53, said in a statement.Sonnet Stanfill, a fashion curator at the museum, called Campbell “one of the most prolific and influential figures in contemporary culture.”The exhibition will include some 100 looks and accessories from the biggest names in fashion, from Chanel and Dolce & Gabbana to Versace, Yves Saint Laurent, Alexander McQueen and many others.Highlights include a 1989 Thierry Mugler car-inspired corset made from plastic and metal, a bubble-gum pink Valentino gown and feather cape Campbell wore at the 2019 Met Gala and staggeringly high Vivienne Westwood platform shoes worn by Campbell during her famous 1993 catwalk fall.The London-born Campbell attended stage school from a young age and started her career at 8, when she began performing in music videos for Bob Marley and Culture Club.The aspiring dancer was approached by a model agent when she was 15, and within two years she was strutting down catwalks in Paris and Milan. She was the first Black model to appear on the cover of Vogue France in 1988.Part of the exhibition focuses on Campbell's personal and professional relationship with the late Tunisian-born designer Azzedine Alaïa, who opened his Parisian home and studio to a young Campbell. She inspired his work, while he helped advance her career.Curators said that the show will recognize Campbell's advocacy for equity in the fashion industry and support for emerging creative talents.The exhibition will run from June 22 to April 2025.

Cardi B was thronged by photographers as she arrived at the Roberto Cavalli runway show Thursday, adding star power to Milan Fashion Week.

Looking glamorous in an animal-print coat, dark sunglasses and a blowout, the rapper took her seat next to stylist Kollin Carter and the show could go on.

Fausto Puglisi turned up the volume as he evolved the Cavalli vocabulary. His Spring-Summer 2027 womenswear collection piled animal prints, florals and feathers onto the house’s familiar foundation of exposed skin and embellished denim.

Flowing robes topped low-rise jeans worn with thongs and bra tops. Cropped jeans glittered with crystals and sprouted feathers, while a mesh minidress erupted into crinkled golden ruffles. Chiffon skirts fell into long shredded hemlines, and animal prints were pieced together in a mishmash suggesting a rumble in the jungle. Prints clashed joyfully in an exuberant collection that played on all the Cavalli codes of glamour and animal instinct.

“What I like about Cavalli is that you have the possibility to create jeans as an object,” Puglisi said backstage. “You feel them, you have them and you put them in your wardrobe, and you feel better. It’s about joy.”

Swedish fashion retailer H&M on Thursday reported a bigger than expected rise in June-August operating profit, as CEO Daniel Erver said his push to control costs and make sourcing more efficient was bearing fruit.

Operating profit in H&M's fiscal third quarter increased to 6.04 billion crowns ($608.63 million) against a year-earlier 4.91 billion crowns and a mean forecast in an LSEG poll of analysts of 5.14 billion.

H&M meanwhile said it expected ⁠sales in September ⁠to rise by 1% measured in local currencies, Reuters reported.

Gross profit margin widened to 54.0% in the third quarter, from 52.9% last year, which included positive one-off effects from tariffs, H&M said. Analysts had expected a margin of 53.4%.

Improvements within purchasing, ⁠cost control and operation efficiency contributed to a more profitable business, the CEO said in a statement.

"Although sales developed in a positive direction during the quarter, we see further potential to increase sales going forward," Erver said.

Sales increased 1% in the quarter measured in local currencies. Analysts had expected sales to grow at a sluggish pace.

Erver said H&M is increasing the share of clothes it is buying ⁠in-season, ⁠as it tries to react faster to fashion trends, consumer tastes and increasingly unpredictable weather.

Erver became CEO in January 2024 with a mandate to improve profitability and strengthen the brand, but investors have been waiting for signs he can revive growth in the face of competition from Shein and Zara owner Inditex.

The billionaire family behind H&M is quietly increasing its stake, fueling speculation it could take the fast-fashion retailer private.

‌Burberry creative director Daniel Lee showed bright floral trench coats and checked short suits in his summer 2027 collection for the British luxury brand.

The show at Chelsea College of Arts in London took place in a minimalist bright white cube, with guests including actors Jason Statham and Chiwetel Ejiofor, rappers Skepta and ‌Kano, and Mayor ‌of London Sadiq Khan watching ‌from ⁠wooden seats printed with ⁠Burberry's check.

Women wore skirt suits in windowpane check fabric overlaid with intricately embroidered mimosa and lavender flowers, a motif repeated on matching pumps.

The bright florals also featured on checked short suits ⁠for men, and on fluid, sheer ‌trench coats ‌in pastel blue and aubergine worn over striped dresses.

Patterns ‌ranged from muted, ditsy florals ‌to clashing stripes and face prints, with bright yellow, pink, and green looks cutting through a palette of greys and beiges.

Skirts covered ‌in sequins or bright red pompoms were worn with short airy ⁠jackets ⁠with epaulettes.

Lee's show notes emphasized wearability. "There's an intentional imperfection: the idea of owning a piece, living in it," he wrote.

The men's looks were inspired by street wear, featuring trouser chains and denim, but paired with flowery shirts giving them a 1970s feel.

Rapper Central Cee made his Burberry runway debut in the show, wearing low-slung jeans and a jacket with the hood up.
