Saudi Arabia’s King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief) signed on Monday a joint cooperation agreement with the World Food Program to provide emergency food aid in South Sudan.

The signing ceremony took place in Paris on the sidelines of the international conference for Sudan and neighboring countries organized by France and the European Union.

The agreement was signed by Advisor at the Royal Court and Supervisor General of the KSrelief Dr. Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Rabeeah and World Food Program Executive Director Cindy McCain.

The primary objective of the agreement is to prevent malnutrition among children under the age of two and pregnant and breastfeeding mothers by providing access to food and health assistance. The initiative will benefit 6,265 people.

KSrelief and the WFP also signed another agreement on preventing moderate acute malnutrition for children under five and pregnant and nursing women in Sudan.

It will provide food aid and distribute 132.4 tons of nutritional supplements that will benefit 29,423 people.

This effort is an extension of the humanitarian and relief projects implemented by the Kingdom through the Center to support needy and affected people and promote food security in various parts of the world in collaboration with specialized UN agencies.

Kuwait's foreign ministry issued on Sunday a circular indicating that it had listed eight hospitals in Lebanon as part of regulations related to "combating terrorism.”

Lebanon's health ministry expressed surprise and said it would seek clarification.

It said it received the Kuwaiti statement "with great surprise", adding it had not been provided with "any information or notification from any Kuwaiti entity about this matter.”

"The hospitals mentioned in the statement are registered with the syndicate of private hospitals in Lebanon and carry out their role in providing treatment and health services to all Lebanese without exception," the ministry statement said.

It called the facilities "an essential part of the Lebanese health system,” and said it would contact the relevant authorities to request clarification and "protect Lebanon's health system.”

It noted that "Kuwait has numerous joint projects with the ministry... and has been among the most prominent countries that have stood by the health system during the successive crises that Lebanon has faced.”

The latest move was "unprecedented and inconsistent" with the Gulf country's usual approach, it added.
