Saudi Arabia strongly condemned Iran’s missile and drone attacks on civilian and economic facilities in the United Arab Emirates and a vessel owned by an Emirati company and expressed concern over the rising military escalation in the region, the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement on Tuesday.

The Kingdom affirmed its solidarity with the brotherly United Arab Emirates in the measures it takes to preserve its sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity.

The Kingdom called on Iran to cease these attacks, comply with the principles of international law and relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions, and respect the principles of good neighborliness.

Saudi Arabia also expressed concern over the military escalation in the region, urging de-escalation, restraint, and support for Pakistani mediation to secure a political solution and prevent further instability.

In a statement, the ministry stressed the importance of restoring freedom of international maritime navigation in the Strait of Hormuz to its normal state prior to February 28, calling for ensuring the safe and secure passage of vessels without restrictions.

On Monday, the United Arab Emirates said it came under attack by Iran for the first time since a fragile ceasefire took hold in early April.

The UAE's defense ministry and state news agency on Monday said a fresh Iranian barrage had targeted the country following multiple alerts from authorities warning people to take cover.

"Four cruise missiles launched from Iran were detected toward various areas across the country. Three were successfully engaged over the country's territorial waters, while one fell in the sea," the defense ministry said on social media.

State news agency WAM also cited the defense ministry as saying its forces were working to repel missile and drone attacks coming from Iran.

Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Jasem Albudaiwi condemned, in the strongest terms, the treacherous attacks that targeted a national carrier affiliated with Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) while it was passing through the Strait of Hormuz, SPA reported.

The secretary-general affirmed that the continuation of these brutal Iranian attacks, targeting ships passing through the Strait, constitutes piracy and a serious threat to the security of maritime routes and straits, and represents a flagrant violation of the relevant Security Council resolutions, foremost among them resolution No. 2817.

Albudaiwi expressed the GCC’s full solidarity with the United Arab Emirates and its support for all measures it takes to preserve its sovereignty, security, and stability.
