Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi welcomed the UN Security Council's adoption of the US-proposed Israel-Gaza ceasefire plan, according to a press release from the GCC General Secretariat.
Albudaiwi said that the adoption of this ceasefire resolution will contribute to ending the crisis in Gaza Strip and achieving security and stability in the region and the world.
He said that GCC countries “welcome all regional and international efforts to end the crisis in a way that ensures the security and peace of our Palestinian brothers”, and expressed appreciation for the US efforts in this context.
Moreover, he affirmed the constant positions of the GCC countries vis-à-vis the Palestinian cause, and their support for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on the June 4, 1967, borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, in accordance with the Arab Peace Initiative and international legitimacy, SPA reported.
Also, the Arab Parliament has welcomed the move in an official statement in which it regarded this resolution as a positive step towards halting the ongoing aggression and campaign of extermination against the Palestinian people.
It urged the international community and the Security Council to compel the occupying entity to implement the resolution without delay or preconditions, as well as previous resolutions issued by the United Nations and the International Court of Justice, and to assume their responsibilities for its enforcement.
The Arab Parliament reaffirmed its unwavering support for the Palestinian people until they attained their inalienable rights, including self-determination, the return of refugees, and the establishment of their independent state with East Jerusalem as its capital. It further noted the Arab and international efforts calling for an immediate and urgent cessation of the aggression against Gaza and the war of genocide and ethnic cleansing against the Palestinians.
