Syria, Lebanon Agree to Bolster Security and Military Cooperation

Saudi Arabia hosted in Jeddah on Thursday a meeting between Syria’s Defense Minister Major General Murhaf Abu Qasra and his Lebanese counterpart Major General Michel Menassa to discuss issues of mutual interest aimed at achieving security and stability between their countries.

Saudi Minister of Defense Prince Khalid bin Salman bin Abdulaziz attended the meeting that was held at the directives of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince and Prime Minister.

The Syrian and Lebanese parties signed an agreement that underscores the strategic importance of border demarcation, the establishment of Syrian-Lebanese legal and specialized committees across various sectors, and the activation of coordination mechanisms to address security and military threats, particularly those originating along the border. They also agreed to hold a follow up meeting in Saudi Arabia in the future.

Abu Qasra and Menassa expressed their gratitude to the Kingdom's leadership and to Prince Khalid for hosting the meeting.

The Kingdom stressed its full support for all measures that achieve security and stability in Syria and Lebanese and help in maintaining regional security and stability.

In a series of high-level diplomatic meetings, Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah, held telephone conversations on Friday with senior officials from Pakistan, India, and Uzbekistan, focusing on bilateral relations and regional developments.
Prince Faisal spoke with the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan, Ishaq Dar, to review the strong ties between the Kingdom and Pakistan. The two officials discussed the regional situation and emphasized ongoing efforts to ease tensions and promote stability.
Prince Faisal held a telephone call with India’s External Affairs Minister, Dr. Subrahmanyam Jaishankar. The discussion also centered on regional issues and de-escalation strategies, as well as exploring ways to further strengthen Saudi-Indian relations.
Additionally, Prince Faisal received a phone call from Uzbekistan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bakhtiyor Saidov. The two ministers discussed matters of mutual interest and reaffirmed their commitment to promoting cooperation across various fields.
