US President Donald Trump has said that an agreement between Israel and Hamas on the Gaza Strip is “very close."
“They’re very close to an agreement on Gaza, and we’ll let you know about it during the day or maybe tomorrow,” Trump told reporters on Friday.
Trump’s optimistic outlook comes after the White House announced Thursday that Israel has accepted a new US proposal for a temporary ceasefire with Hamas. White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said that Israel “backed and supported” the new proposal.
Hamas officials, however, gave the Israeli-approved draft a cool response, but said they wanted to study the proposal more closely before giving a formal answer.
