Saudi Arabia, represented by the Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority (SDAIA), participated on Tuesday in a roundtable of experts on “Capacity Building for AI Supervisory Authorities,” held at the UN Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) headquarters in Paris.
The meeting brought together representatives of regulatory authorities and AI experts from around the world.
SDAIA's General Department of AI Governance Director Raneem Alkattan highlighted Saudi Arabia’s notable progress in supervising AI technologies.
She pointed to the development of advanced regulatory frameworks and the adoption of leading practices in algorithm auditing and AI impact assessment, reflecting the Kingdom’s commitment to responsible governance of these technologies and the promotion of their safe use, in line with its ambitious national vision.
The roundtable addressed several key themes, including perspectives from different countries on AI oversight, understanding methodologies for algorithm auditing and supervisory tools, and holding practical workshops to test monitoring techniques and tools.
Discussions also covered the impact of AI on assessments and their role in risk management and compliance strategies, as well as the governance challenges posed by the expansion of open-source AI models.
SDAIA’s participation reflects the Kingdom’s continued role in supporting global efforts to promote responsible oversight of AI technologies, reinforcing its position as an active partner in shaping the future of the technologies.
It underscores the Kingdom’s commitment to advancing the United Nations' 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as it seeks to achieve the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030, aiming to build a sustainable knowledge-based economy.
