A research team from Northern Borders University, in partnership with the King Salman Center for Disability Research, has developed an intelligent system that leverages Vision Transformer technology and a dual-attention mechanism to enable blind and visually impaired individuals navigate various environments more independently.
The system, reflecting the humanistic spirit of science, analyzes images and extracts detailed visual features, allowing users to identify their surroundings such as offices, classrooms, or stores without direct assistance, SPA reported.
The system enhances the blind people's privacy and confidence while navigating different spaces.
Scientific tests have demonstrated the system’s superior accuracy and efficiency compared to conventional models, along with the added advantage of compatibility with mobile and smart devices.
Supported by the King Salman Center for Disability Research, the project aligns with the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030 to empower persons with disabilities, enhance their social inclusion, and promote equal opportunities in education, employment, and mobility.
