Chairman of Yemen’s Presidential Leadership Council Dr. Rashad al-Alimi traveled to Riyadh from the interim capital Aden on Saturday for talks with regional and international partners.
The talks are part of international coordination to support Yemen’s economic recovery and confront rising security, political and humanitarian challenges, said a presidential source according to state media.
The source said the consultations will focus on bolstering national unity and advancing economic, monetary and services reforms. Alimi will discuss with officials humanitarian and development support needed to ease the suffering of the Yemeni people and help guide the country towards stability, development and peace.
Talks will also tackle counter-terrorism efforts and combating weapons smuggling, especially amid growing signs that terrorist groups were cooperating with the Iran-backed Houthi militias, added the source.
The PLC is committed to ensuring that employees are paid and to ensuring that basic services are provided, it went on to say.
The source praised Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates’ continued support to the Yemeni people and their political leadership and efforts to restore state institutions and consolidate Yemen’s Arab identity and effective role in the international community.
Days earlier, Saudi Arabia, through the Saudi Development and Reconstruction Program for Yemen (SDRPY), signed with the Yemeni government two development agreements and a memorandum of understanding aimed at boosting economic stability, improving basic services and building institutional capacities.
On September 20, Riyadh pledged 368 million dollars to the Yemeni people through the SDRPY.
