Saudi athletes delivered an impressive performance on Sunday at the 3rd Asian Youth Games (Bahrain 2025), raising the Kingdom’s total win to 12 medals — three gold, four silver and five bronze — securing 10th place in the overall standings amid strong competition across various sports.
Player Tala Al-Mazrou achieved a historic milestone by winning the gold medal in eFootball in the esports category, becoming the first Saudi female athlete to win gold at the Asian Youth Games. She advanced to the final after defeating the Laotian player 2-1 and 3-0 in the semifinals, before triumphing over the Thai player with decisive scores of 3-0, 1-0 and 3-1 in the final, the Saudi Press Agency reported on Monday.
Weightlifter Mohammed Al-Ajyan secured Saudi Arabia’s second medal of the day, claiming silver in the 56-kilogram category after lifting 138 kilograms. The gold went to the Chinese lifter with 141 kilograms, while the Philippine athlete took bronze with 137 kilograms.
In Muay Thai, athlete Almoatasim bin Salem won the bronze medal in the 57-kilogram category on Saturday, adding to Saudi Arabia’s overall medal tally at the games.
The Saudi handball team continued its strong performance in the tournament, defeating Bahrain 33-27 to top its group with a perfect record, following earlier victories over the Maldives 71-7, Jordan 13-11 and Hong Kong 43-16.
In 3x3 basketball, the Saudi team advanced to the quarterfinals after defeating Sri Lanka 17-16 and Yemen 16-11.
Moreover, the U-17 futsal team concluded its participation with a 3-1 win over Kyrgyzstan, finishing third in its group, which also included Iran and Thailand.
