Saudi Arabia is now hosting more than 11,000 events each year - surpassing global entertainment centers such as Las Vegas - according to Fahd Hamidaddin, CEO and board member of the Saudi Tourism Authority.
Speaking at the International Exhibitions and Conferences Summit in Riyadh on Wednesday, Hamidaddin said the Kingdom’s rapid rise underscores the growing importance of developing a world-class visitor experience.
He noted that Saudi Arabia is steadily strengthening its position as one of the foremost destinations in the global exhibitions and events industry, fueled by ambitious national goals and remarkable sector growth.
Hamidaddin attributed the Kingdom’s competitive edge to three pillars: business development, learning, and leisure. He highlighted major projects such as Qiddiya and the Red Sea development, along with the expansion of airports and aviation infrastructure, as key drivers.
“Saudi Arabia today is a global hub for international events,” he said, describing the country as “a living laboratory where experts and innovators come together to redefine the future of tourism, entertainment, and sustainability.”
Although annual visits have doubled from 60 million to 120 million in recent years, Hamidaddin said the industry is still at the beginning of its growth trajectory. He predicted even stronger expansion as the country’s mega-projects move into full operation.
The tourism chief urged international event organizers to bring bold ideas to the Kingdom, reiterating the authority’s commitment to supporting high-impact initiatives.
He concluded by saying that the coming phase will witness unprecedented growth as Saudi Arabia opens its large-scale developments to the world.
