Chairman of Yemen's Presidential Leadership Council (PLC) Dr. Rashad al-Alimi stressed on Thursday that the state is making tangible progress in unifying security and military institutions and improving basic service in the liberated governorates.
Meeting in Riyadh with ambassadors of countries sponsoring the political process in Yemen, al-Alimi credited Saudi Arabia's support to making these achievements possible.
The state has started taking measures to unify security and military decision-making, he added. This includes expelling armed factions from the interim capital Aden and the liberated provinces.
Such a move had not been possible in recent years, even after the signing of the Riyadh agreement in November 2019, he lamented.
Moreover, al-Alimi said the government is forging ahead in shutting all illegal prisons and tasking a national investigation committee with probing the rights violations that were committed there.
He also highlighted the improvement in services in liberated regions, with electricity in Aden being provided 14 hours a day - a rise from two hours previously.
He revealed that Saudi Arabia is now paying the salaries of armed formations that were previously funded by Abu Dhabi. The Kingdom is also supporting the public budget and providing the wages of public employees. It is launching services and development projects in several governorates worth nearly 2 billion Saudi riyals.
On the political level, al-Alimi said preparations are underway to hold the Saudi-sponsored dialogue on southern Yemen.
He asserted to the ambassadors that the Houthi coup against the state is at the core of Yemen's crisis.
He called on the international community to exert more efforts in resolving the crisis through backing the legitimate government as it tries to impose its authority throughout Yemen.
