Coachless Rennes stunned Ligue 1 leader Paris Saint-Germain 3-1 at home and snapped a five-game winless run on Friday.

The home side fired coach Habib Beye on Monday after its early season gains looked to be slipping away, and it was a firm underdog against PSG, which came to Brittany after winning all seven of its last league fixtures.

But Rennes hit the post early on and it got a reward for its confident start after 33 minutes. Jordanian midfielder Mousa Al-Tamari charged forward on the counterattack and found enough space between two defenders on the edge of the penalty area to curl in a superb opener, The Associated Press reported.

PSG came into the game but was hesitant in front of goal and Esteban Lepaul doubled Rennes' lead midway through the second half. The prolific center forward rose highest to bullet a header past Matvey Safonov for his 11th goal of the season.

Former Rennes player Ousmane Dembélé pulled one back for PSG two minutes later but Breel Embolo restored Rennes' two-goal cushion in the 81st when he finished off another counterattack.

PSG remained atop the table but second-placed Lens can take over if it beats Paris FC on Saturday.

Rennes moved above Lille into fifth place.

Monaco beats Nantes

Monaco overcame lowly Nantes 3-1 for its fourth league game without defeat.

Monaco rose three places to seventh after a horrendous run of seven losses in eight league games from the start of December to mid-January.

Ivory Coast winger Adingra scored in the 25th and 28th minutes and Denis Zakaria added a third after half an hour — his first goal of the season — to put Monaco in the driver's seat.

Fabien Centonze pulled a goal back on the stroke of halftime for Nantes.

Although Aleksandr Golovin’s dismissal after 65 minutes gave Nantes a man advantage for most of the second half it could not muster a fightback.

Nantes was second from bottom of Ligue 1, equal on points with third-from-bottom Auxerre.

With a third of the season remaining, the gap between the bottom three and the teams above them was an intimidating eight points.

'Nothing is Impossible': Shaidorov Shocks Favorite Malinin to Make History

Mikhail Shaidorov said his Olympic men's figure skating gold proved "nothing is impossible" after shocking US star Ilia Malinin on Friday to make history for Kazakhstan.

Shaidorov, the world silver medalist, had been in fifth after Tuesday's short program but delivered a technically exceptional free skate to grab gold as Malinan finished off the podium in eighth.

Shaidorov hit five quads and an incredible opening triple Axel-Euler-quadruple Salchow combination which racked up big points and settled his nerves.

Surprized by his victory, he paid tribute to Malinin: "He is very important for figure skating, he is the best skater in history.

"I still can't believe I'm an Olympic champion."

Malinin, a two-time defending world champion and undefeated for over two years, had been leading after the short program, but he capitulated and ultimately finished 15th in the free skate and eighth overall.

The 21-year-old fell twice and singled his attempt at a first quadruple axel in Olympic history with only three clean quads for the skater who hit a record seven on his way to victory in the Grand Prix final where Shaidorov finished sixth.

"When I was watching Ilia skating I was surprized because usually he's exceptional and I don't know what exactly happened," Shaidorov said.

"I was rooting for him. When you're nervous you can make mistakes, as they say in figure skating 'the ice is slippery'.

"Everyone was very nervous and we were all under pressure.

"I told him (after the competition) it was incredibly difficult for me to share the same ice as him."

Japan's Yuma Kagiyama, second after the short program, also fell during his routine, but took silver ahead of compatriot Shun Sato who moved up from ninth.

France's Adam Siao Him Fa, who had been third, dropped to seventh.

"It was important for me to show good skating and what I had learned," Shaidorov said.

To calm his nerves, Shaidorov revealed he had assembled Lego before taking to the ice.

His free skate to "The Diva Dance" earned him personal best scores of 198.64 for the routine and 291.58 overall.

Such was his relief he collapsed on the ice after his four-minute routine.

"I felt relieved this incredible pressure was gone," he said. "I did everything I could and nothing else depended on me that moment."

Shaidorov said that his world silver medal had had a big impact on the popularity of the sport in his country.

"I hope after my victory we'll have better conditions for young people to join the sport and know that nothing is impossible."

The 21-year-old's gold was only the second title for Kazakhstan at a Winter Olympics after Vladimir Smirnov won cross-country gold in Lillehammer in 1994.

Kazakh figure skater Denis Ten won men's figure skating bronze at the Sochi Olympics in 2014.

And Shaidorov praised Ten, who died aged 25 after being stabbed by car thieves.

"Denis Ten influenced me and figure skating in Kazakhstan. He opened the door for us.

"I hope this medal will open the door for skaters from Kazakhstan to know the sky is the limit.

"Today the stars aligned for me."

Barca Blast Refereeing Inconsistency in Letter to Spanish Federation

Spanish champions Barcelona filed a complaint with the country's football federation (RFEF) criticising perceived refereeing inconsistencies on Saturday.

Triggered by the club's anger at a controversially disallowed goal in the 4-0 Copa del Rey defeat by Atletico Madrid on Thursday, Barca wrote to the RFEF and Spain's refereeing committee (CTA), demanding more transparency.

Barca said in a statement their letter expresses "deep concern over repeated refereeing decisions it considers detrimental (to the club) and lacking a consistent standard".

The Catalan giants highlighted "the existence of disparate decisions responding to actions of identical nature", which they say creates a "double standard", AFP reported.

Barca said there has been a "pattern of flagrant refereeing errors throughout the season", many of which have set them back, which "directly affects the integrity of the competition and fuels growing mistrust".

They also called for greater transparency in the use of VAR, with a clearer criteria for when referees are called to review actions, and requested the full publication of all VAR audio.

Several other clubs have complained about refereeing in Spain this season, while Real Madrid have regularly criticised referees through their television channel over the past two seasons.

In February 2025 Real Madrid published an open letter claiming Spanish refereeing was "rigged" and "completely discredited" after they fell to a surprise defeat at Espanyol.

Barcelona are currently being investigated by Spanish authorities in a sports corruption case after paying former CTA vice-president Jose Maria Enriquez Negreira seven million euros ($8.3 million) over several years. The club deny any wrongdoing.

2 Sailors Injured after Crash between New Zealand, France at SailGP Race

Two sailors have been injured in a high-speed crash between New Zealand and France on the first day of the SailGP race in Auckland, New Zealand on Saturday.

Both sailors were taken to hospital and were said to be awake and alert. Their names and conditions are not immediately available, The Associated Press reported.

The crash occurred in the third of four SailGP races scheduled on Saturday. As the fleet of 13 boats approached the first gate at speeds of almost 90 kilometers per hour (56 mph), the New Zealand yacht lost control and spun into the path of France.

The French boat rode over the top of the New Zealand boat causing severe damage to both boats which were locked together. Racing was abandoned for the day while the injured sailors were ferried to shore and to hospital and while the damaged boats were recovered.

Television footage suggested the New Zealand boat had lifted and heeled at speed, causing the rudder to rise out of the water.

New Zealand had just returned after a crash with Switzerland in the first event of the season in Perth, Australia which was won by Britain. The New Zealand driver Peter Burling received demerit points on his super sailing license for his role in that collision.

In SailGP, teams from 13 nations race identical 50-foot catamarans which rise out of the water on foils and are capable of reaching speeds of 100 kph (60 mph).

Two races were completed on Saturday before the crash. Australia won the first and New Zealand won the second. Racing on the second day Sunday will start early because of the threat of thunderstorms.
