Syria and Kuwait agreed on Monday to establish a high-level joint coordination committee and expand cooperation in diplomacy, trade and investment, reported Syria’s state news agency SANA.
Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani was in Kuwait where he met his counterpart Sheikh Jarrah Jaber al-Ahmad Al-Sabah.
The ministers agreed to strengthen diplomatic coordination, work toward exchanging ambassadors, and boost economic and investment ties through the creation of a Syrian-Kuwaiti Business Council.
According to the ministry, the new committee will be co-chaired by the two foreign ministers and oversee joint committees aimed at advancing bilateral cooperation across multiple sectors.
They also discussed expanding cooperation between the two countries’ chambers of commerce and business councils.
Al-Shaibani underscored Syria’s support for Kuwait, respect for its sovereignty, and condemnation of any attacks targeting Kuwaiti territory or the territory of Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member states.
Al-Shaibani had arrived in Kuwait earlier on Monday.
He also met with Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah.
They discussed ways to strengthen bilateral relations and expand cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
The meeting covered the latest regional developments and ongoing efforts to promote security and stability in the region.
Al-Shaibani had previously visited Kuwait on June 1, 2025, as part of an official visit by President Ahmed al-Sharaa.
