Saudi Ambassador to Saudi Arabia Mohammed Al-Jaber said on Saturday that the Houthi militia has turned Yemen into a bargaining chip in the hands of foreign parties aiming to achieve their interests at the expense of its security and stability despite the suffering of its people.
In a series of tweets on the X platform, he said: “Peace cannot be achieved with slogans or political stalling, but through a sincere will that places the country’s interest and people above all else.”
“Saudi Arabia has and continues to support all efforts to restore calm and peace,” he added.
He cited its support for the UN envoy to Yemen to reach a comprehensive political solution that ends the suffering of the Yemeni people.
Al-Jaber said however, that the Houthis “keep insisting on escalation and violence rather than calm and peace in service of foreign agendas that have nothing to do with Yemen.”
“The Houthis have turned Yemen into a bargaining chip in the hands of foreign parties that use it to achieve their interests at the expense of its stability” and as the Yemeni people “suffer under injustice, hunger and constant violations in regions held by the Houthis,” the ambassador remarked.
“The militia continues to promote false claims and attempt to export its crises and failures abroad to evade responsibility for the humanitarian tragedy it caused,” he stated.
“Saudi Arabia will continue to support all initiatives aimed at reopening Sanaa airport to commercial flights in solidarity with the brotherly Yemeni people, ensuring their ability to travel after the Houthis blocked flights using weak pretexts,” he declared.
He noted that the Kingdom continues to support the entry of vessels into Hodeidah port to meet the needs of the Yemeni people, while the Houthis “keep up their cowardly attacks on civilian commercial vessels in the Red Sea, threatening international marine navigation and the security of the region.”
“As it has always done, Saudi Arabia will continue to support the Yemeni people and back their legitimate government until security, stability and peace prevail,” he said.
