Lionel Messi returned to Major League Soccer action after World Cup duty on Saturday, coming on in the second half as his Inter Miami side drew 2-2 with Columbus Crew.

Two weeks after Argentina's loss to Spain in the World Cup final, Messi was back on the pitch, entering in the 53rd minute to the delight of fans at Miami's Nu Stadium, said AFP.

But Messi could not mark his return with a goal, twice shooting wide.

Uruguayan Luis Suarez scored his seventh goal in his last four games to put Miami 1-0 up in the 16th minute.

Miami's former Manchester United and Real Madrid midfielder Casemiro scored an own goal in the 34th minute which drew Columbus level at 1-1.

Suarez provided the assist for Noah Allen to head Miami into a 2-1 half-time lead

But midfielder Brais Mendez, making his Columbus debut after arriving from Real Sociedad in Spain, curled in a second equalizer from an 84th-minute free-kick.

The result ended Miami's six-match winning streak and kept them in second place in the Eastern Conference behind Nashville, who drew 2-2 at DC United.

Los Angeles FC and Vancouver Whitecaps remain level at the top of the Western Conference after they drew 1-1 at Vancouver's BC Place.

Son Heung-min extended his scoring streak since the MLS resumed after the World Cup to four goals in four matches as he put Los Angeles ahead in the 37th minute.

But Vancouver's German star Thomas Mueller converted a 76th-minute penalty.

The former Tottenham star Son, who had shouldered much of the blame for South Korea's failure to make it to the knockout rounds of the World Cup, also earned MVP honors in the MLS All-Star Game on Wednesday.

Bologna fired coach Domenico Tedesco on Wednesday after just four Serie A matches and replaced him with Raffaele Palladino.

Sunday’s loss at Napoli left Bologna 16th in the league table, with just one point from its opening four matches.

Tedesco had only been in charge since June.

In a brief statement, Bologna thanked Tedesco for his “professionalism and competence” and said Palladino had been given a contract through the end of June 2029, The Associated Press reported.

The 42-year-old Palladino previously led Monza, Fiorentina and Atalanta.

His first match in charge will be on Saturday at home to Torino, before the extra-long international break.

It is not the first coaching change of the fledgling Serie A season as Fabio Grosso was fired this month by Fiorentina, which rehired Paolo Vanoli.

Monaco's tight and twisty streets will host a Formula One sprint for the first time next season with a record 10 race weekends, including the scheduled opener in Bahrain, featuring the format on a 24-round calendar published on Wednesday.

The championship will start at the Sakhir circuit on March 14, after February 24-27 testing in the Gulf kingdom, with Saudi Arabia the second round on March 21, Formula One and the governing FIA said.

Portugal (June 20) and Türkiye (October 3) are additions with the Dutch Grand Prix at Zandvoort and Barcelona having dropped off.

There were no asterisks against the four races in the Gulf, but they will remain uncertain for ‌as long as ‌the current conflict in the region continues.

Saudi Arabia's race in Jeddah ‌was cancelled this year while Bahrain's has been rescheduled to Malaysia's Sepang circuit next month.

SPRINT MEANS TWO QUALIFYING SESSIONS IN MONACO

The inclusion of a Monaco sprint race will surprise some, given that overtaking is almost impossible around the principality's harborside layout.

Qualifying is usually the most exciting point of the Monaco weekend, with the race often a procession and won from pole position, and Formula One highlighted the fact that spectators would now get two qualifying sessions as well as the showcase grand prix on Sunday.

Replacing Friday's second practice session with sprint qualifying should increase the excitement on the first day of track action ‌but it will also give drivers significantly less time ‌to work their way into the weekend at a particularly unforgiving track.

A Saturday sprint victory is worth eight ‌points to the winner, meaning a driver can come away from the weekend with a maximum ‌of 33 rather than the usual 25 if he wins both.

The 2026 season featured six sprints, the most to date, but Formula One chief executive Stefano Domenicali said in August that the number would be increased because so many circuits wanted one since the format was introduced in 2021.

Formula One said its data showed total ‌viewership of sprint weekends was 12% higher than non-sprint weekends, with qualifying three times more popular with fans than free practice.

Bahrain's Sakhir circuit, Australia (Melbourne), Japan (Suzuka), Monaco and Abu Dhabi (Yas Marina) will all host sprints for the first time.

Returning sprints will be Canada (Montreal), Britain (Silverstone), Italy (Monza), Brazil (Interlagos) and Qatar (Lusail).

That means three of the first four rounds will be sprints, as well as three of the last four.

"We are thrilled to welcome Portugal and Türkiye to the championship and to expand sprint racing to 10 events, giving our fans even more intensity, drama and the wheel-to-wheel action that makes our sport so special," said Domenicali.

Australia (April 4), Japan (April 11) and China (April 18) will form a triple-header on successive weekends before Miami stands alone on May 2 with Canada and Monaco following on May 23 and June 6.

Azerbaijan (September 26), Türkiye (October 3) and Singapore (October 10) form another triple-header with Austin (October 24), Mexico (October 31) and Brazil (November 7) lining up as the third.

Next season is due to end later than this year with successive sprint weekends in Qatar (December 5) and Abu Dhabi (December 12).

This year's final race is scheduled for Abu Dhabi on December 6, although it could be rescheduled to Italy's Imola circuit for the same date.

Tottenham Hotspur manager Roberto de Zerbi is convinced that his team will score a lot more goals and pick up wins once they finally click, despite a 3-1 loss to Liverpool in the League Cup on Tuesday which left them winless in four straight games.

The North London side finished just two points above the relegation zone last season and are winless in the new Premier League campaign with just two points from four games.

"We are suffering because the results are our life. If we lose, we are sorry, we are sad, we are disappointed, we are frustrated," De Zerbi told Spurs' official website after the third-round defeat.

"It's tough. But it's the first moment, the first part of this new project,” Reuters quoted him as saying.

De Zerbi took over in March and has been backed in the transfer market, the club spending more than £300 million ($404 million) to bring in Sandro Tonali, Mateus Fernandes, Savio, Omar Marmoush and Mykhailo Mudryk.

"I think when we make the click ... but the click is not mentality, because today we showed the right mentality, the right behavior and we played until the end of the game," the manager added.

"I think we are going to win many games and score many goals.”

Spurs next face Aston Villa in the league on Saturday.
