Sudanese Armed Forces Chief of Staff Yasser al-Atta has said that the army was advancing on all fronts with the aim of eliminating the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) by the end of the year.
Al-Atta spoke this week to recently defected fighters from the RSF and tribal fighters.
“By the end of this year, there will not be a single Janjaweed fighter,” he said, using a term to refer to the RSF, “or a foreign fighter, and we are determined to achieve that.”
Al-Atta added that the army is attempting to advance on all fronts across the country, in a strategy he linked to the recapture of Khartoum earlier in the war.
The conflict between Sudan's army and the RSF, now in its fourth year, has displaced millions and devastated much of the country.
