MWL Condemns Houthi Militia Attacks on Makkah, Madinah

The Muslim World League (MWL) strongly condemned the attacks launched by the Houthi militia against Makkah and Madinah, as well as its continued aggression against the Kingdom, which it said terrorizes Muslims and threatens the sanctity of the holy sites and mosques.

In a statement issued by the General Secretariat, MWL Secretary-General and Chairman of the Organization of Muslim Scholars Sheikh Dr. Mohammed Al-Issa condemned the Houthi militia's attacks targeting holy sites, mosques, schools, and civilian infrastructure, describing them as a flagrant violation of the values of Islamic faith and fundamental humanitarian principles, SPA reported.

He called on Islamic nations and the international community to condemn the attacks targeting Makkah and Madinah regions.

He also reaffirmed full solidarity with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia regarding all measures taken to deter terrorist aggression and safeguard the sanctity of holy sites and the lives of Muslims.

Saudi Arabia Condemns Terrorist Houthi Militia's Hostile Drone Targeting Makkah

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's condemnation and denunciation of the terrorist Houthi militia's launch of a hostile drone toward Makkah on September 15, 2026.

The Kingdom affirmed that this cowardly terrorist attack targeting the sacred city, the land of the divine message, the place where revelation descended, and the Qiblah of Muslims, constitutes a repetition of the terrorist Houthi militia's practices of targeting and violating the sanctity of the holy sites, and a provocation to the sentiments of Muslims around the world, particularly as this attempt marks the second attempt to target Makkah, following its first attempt on July 27, 2017, SPA reported.

The Kingdom commended the vigilance of the Royal Saudi Air Defense Forces, which responded to this attack and successfully intercepted and destroyed the drone before it entered the restricted airspace of Makkah.

The Kingdom renewed its call on the international community to condemn these grave attacks and to take a firm stance against the terrorist Houthi militia's attacks on the holy sites and civilian and economic facilities in the Kingdom, as well as the threats posed by the Houthi militia to freedom of maritime navigation, commercial shipping, and international trade.

The Kingdom reiterated its legitimate right to take all necessary measures to defend the security of the Two Holy Mosques and the pilgrims and visitors they receive, as well as the Kingdom's entire territory, citizens, and residents.

Pakistan's Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif condemned on Wednesday “in the strongest possible terms the dastardly and heinous” attack on the holy city of Makkah.

“The people of Pakistan are saddened and perturbed by this outrageous act,” he said on X.

Saudi defenses intercepted on Tuesday a hostile drone fired by the terrorist Houthis in Yemen before it entered the prohibited airspace area of the holy city of Makkah.

Official Spokesperson of the Coalition to Restore Legitimacy in Yemen Major General Turki Al-Malki revealed that this was the second hostile and terrorist attempt to target Makkah. The first took place on July 27, 2017.

UN Condemns Houthi Attacks on Saudi Arabia, Stresses Red Sea Maritime Security

The United Nations condemned attacks by the Houthi militia targeting civilian infrastructure and the energy sector in Saudi Arabia, stressing the importance of protecting maritime security in the Red Sea and restoring and respecting navigation rights and freedoms in the Bab al-Mandab Strait in line with international law and relevant Security Council resolutions.

The statement came during an emergency session of the UN Security Council held on Tuesday to discuss developments in the Bab al-Mandab Strait, during which UN Assistant Secretary-General for the Middle East, Europe, the Americas, Asia and the Pacific Khaled Khiari referred to the recent attacks on Saudi Arabia.

He stressed the need to restore and respect navigation rights and freedoms in the Red Sea and the Bab al-Mandab Strait in line with international law and Security Council resolutions, including resolution 2722.

He also warned that ongoing disruptions in these maritime corridors could affect international peace and security, global energy markets, food security, and the economies of the most vulnerable countries.
