Jannik Sinner confirmed on Friday that Magnus Norman will replace his long-time coach Darren Cahill, who helped shape the Italian into the world's top tennis player.

In a statement, world number two Sinner said that he would conclude his partnership with Cahill, which began in June 2022, "at the end of the 2026 season".

Working with Cahill and Simone Vagnozzi, Sinner has become the pre-eminent figure in men's tennis alongside Spanish star Carlos Alcaraz.

Sinner is already the most successful Italian tennis player of all time at the age of 25, a five-time Grand Slam winner who last year became the first man from his country to win Wimbledon.

"I want to thank Darren for his belief in me, his honesty and his dedication. He has helped me grow both as a player and as a person, and his guidance will stay with me throughout my career," said Sinner.

"We have shared so many special moments over the past five years, and while our coaching partnership is coming to an end, our friendship will continue."

Sinner has been injured since winning Wimbledon for the second straight year in July, and lost his spot at the top of the men's world rankings to Alexander Zverev.

He is set to return to action in the "Six Kings Slam" tournament in Saudi Arabia in December.

Michael Carrick takes charge of Manchester United for what could be the last time against Aston Villa this weekend as he battles to save his job despite a morale-boosting midweek victory over Roma.

United's dramatic win in the Champions League gave the coach breathing space but he remains under intense pressure ahead of the international break.

Elsewhere in the Premier League, Manchester City will be seeking to avoid a rare third straight league defeat when they face Nottingham Forest as they try to keep pace with leaders Arsenal.

AFP Sport looks at three talking points ahead of the action:

Carrick's last chance?

When Manchester United's players trudged off at half-time against Roma on Tuesday, 2-0 down and seemingly out of ideas, Michael Carrick's fate appeared to be sealed.

Instead, his underperforming team somehow turned things around, with Matheus Cunha scoring two late goals in a 3-2 win at a feverish Old Trafford.

It ended a run of nine games without a victory -- United's longest winless run since the 1988/89 season.

Defender Diogo Dalot said he hopes the Roma result can kickstart their season.

"Nights like this can change momentum, can change seasons, and I think this win is going to give us confidence for the next games," he said.

But the brutal reality is that United could be bottom of the Premier League when they kick off on Sunday if results go against them.

Whatever the outcome, the international break will give the club's hierarchy an opportunity to consider their long-term options.

Villa's Spanish manager, Unai Emery, was tipped as a potential candidate for the Old Trafford hot seat but reports suggest he is close to signing a new deal with the Birmingham club.

Two-way title race?

Manchester City know that even if they keep pace with Mikel Arteta's Arsenal, it might ultimately all be in vain.

The Etihad club are still waiting to discover their fate after being found guilty of more than 100 breaches of Premier League financial rules -- with a huge points deduction one potential punishment.

Arsenal appear to be the only other serious contender for the title, having the happy knack of winning even when below par.

On paper, both clubs face a straightforward task this weekend, though City's trip to Nottingham Forest could be trickier than it looks.

Opta's "expected points" table, which orders the Premier League based on expected goals for and against, has Oliver Glasner's team in third -- a remarkable 16 places higher than they are in the real table.

Arsenal, who host struggling Hull, have won 18 of their past 19 Premier League games against promoted sides.

Things looking up for Spurs

The doom and gloom around Tottenham has lifted after a three-game winning streak in the Premier League under manager Roberto De Zerbi.

Less than three weeks ago Spurs, without a single win, propped up the division. They are now comfortably placed in mid-table.

Defender Archie Gray credits the spirit of the squad for the turnaround, which has the club just four points behind fourth-placed Chelsea.

"We all get on really well and you can see that out there on the pitch," he told SpursPlay. "Even with the celebration(s), all the subs are running to the players and they are little things that mean so much to us. That's the most important thing and why we've been improving."

Daniel Farke's Leeds are winless in their past five Premier League games and have scored just twice during that run, slipping to 12th in the table.

Leaders Barcelona visit Atletico Madrid on Sunday in La Liga with Raphinha back to his devastating best as the team's center-forward, suggesting the Catalan giants have little reason to regret missing out on Julian Alvarez this summer.

The Argentina international tried to force his way out of Atletico to join Spanish champions Barca, whose attempts to engineer a deal angered the Rojiblancos.

Barcelona were fined around 600 euros ($675) for their approach for striker Alvarez by the Spanish football federation in October.

Alvarez stayed and later apologized to Atletico fans to try and rebuild bridges, while Barcelona moved on fast, with winger Raphinha developing into an unstoppable force in a previously unfamiliar number nine role.

Raphinha's form has made the chances of Barca returning for Alvarez next summer remote, and, after penning a new contract until 2030 on Thursday, he will look to underline that against Atletico.

With the Brazilian firing on all cylinders Hansi Flick's side won 11 games straight across all competitions at the start of the season but then suffered back-to-back defeats by Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid.

Raphinha was not at his best for either match after suffering a thigh injury on international duty with Brazil at the end of September.

The 29-year-old was uncharacteristically quiet in Barca's 4-2 Champions League defeat by PSG, and he netted in the subsequent 2-1 home defeat by Real Madrid without shining.

Four goals in the two matches which followed, against Alaves and Aston Villa, indicate he has now recovered fully.

Raphinha followed those good displays up by signing his new deal, just reward for his delivery since Hansi Flick arrived in 2024.

After joining Barcelona from Leeds in 2022 the winger grew frustrated under coach Xavi Hernandez, who did not seem to trust him completely.

However, Flick's arrival and his high-pressing game suited Raphinha to the ground and the winger has gone from strength to strength, becoming one of the team's most influential players and one of the captains.

Raphinha was absent through injury last season as Barcelona crashed out of the Champions League in the quarter-finals against Atletico.

Now he will be central to their hopes of avoiding another setback against Diego Simeone's side.

Atletico, second in La Liga, are two points behind Barca and hoping to usurp the reigning champions with a win at the Metropolitano stadium on Sunday.

- Initial concerns -

Raphinha had some reservations about playing as the striker at the start of the season when Flick asked him to move there, after it became clear Alvarez would not arrive.

"You're in the spot where before there was only (Robert) Lewandowski," said Raphinha.

"If you don't score goals, people judge you for that.

"I had a few doubts because of that and also about playing with my back to goal, but in the end, I think I've done well and I've liked it."

Those doubts are a distant memory. Raphinha boasts 19 goals in 13 appearances across all competitions this season.

"We give him the balls and he puts them in the net," said Fermin Lopez bluntly in September, laying bare the simplicity of playing with the Brazilian in this form.

By contrast, Alvarez has struggled to find his best level at Atletico, initially whistled by his own supporters, although he has improved in recent weeks. The forward has two goals in 11 appearances.

As one of the team's leaders and someone with a determined personality, no player will be more hurt by the criticism after the PSG and Madrid defeats than Raphinha.

The Brazilian will be going all-out this weekend to highlight that Barca are capable of defeating the biggest teams, putting recent doubts behind them, and confirming he is the striker they needed all along.
