World Cup Winner Ferran Torres Signs for Paris Saint-Germain

Spain international Ferran Torres, who scored the only goal in last month's World Cup final, signed for two-time Champions League winners Paris Saint Germain from Barcelona on Saturday.

The 26-year-old striker cost the Ligue 1 champions a reported 50 million euros ($58 million), AFP reported.

"Paris Saint-Germain is delighted to announce it has secured the services of Ferran Torres. The Spanish World Cup-winning forward has signed with the Club until 2031," read the club statement.

The former Valencia and Manchester City star is reunited with PSG coach Luis Enrique, who as Spain coach gave him his international debut in a Nations League match against Germany in 2020.

Torres, who won three La Liga titles while at Barcelona, came on as a substitute in the World Cup final and the 65-times capped marksman scored in extra-time to dash Argentina's hopes of retaining their title.

Nicknamed 'The Shark', he joined Barcelona in the 2021/22 season transfer window and in 207 matches for FC Barcelona, he found the net 65 times, including in the Copa del Rey final victory against Real Madrid in 2025.

"The Club would like to express its gratitude to Ferran Torres for his commitment over the last four and a half seasons as a blaugrana and wishes him all the best for the next stage of his professional career," said Barcelona in a statement on their website.

His arrival in the French capital may raise Premier League side Liverpool's hopes of signing PSG's 23-year-old livewire wing Bradley Barcola, who sparkled for France at the World Cup.

The two clubs have been in discussions for weeks, with PSG's apparent asking price of around 150 million euros ($173 million) proving the stumbling block.

Everton boss David Moyes conceded he is left with a small squad after a disappointing transfer window in which key players departed the club and a deadline day medical fell through as they tried to sign American striker Folarin Balogun.

Moyes expressed frustration at his club's close-season business, revealing they did not want to lose Senegal forward Iliman Ndiaye but were powerless when bigger teams like Manchester City look to sign their players.

"Disappointed we didn't do more business and disappointed things didn't go our way in the end. Sometimes in football you have to live with disappointment and we will move on," Moyes told reporters on Friday.

"I know what I ⁠needed and I ⁠know what it's like to build a squad for the Premier League, I know the numbers you need. I've been around long enough to know that, but some things went against us and some things could have gone better.

"Ultimately, we didn't want to lose a lot of the players, but for different reasons that had to happen."

AS Monaco ⁠CEO Thiago Scuro said Everton raised concerns over Balogun's medical late on deadline day and that the US international pulled out because he was uncomfortable with the doubts raised by the Merseyside club over his health.

"It wasn't anybody's fault. It happens in football a lot," Reuters quoted Moyes as saying. "The player had a problem in his medical and that was simply it. There's no other story behind it."

Everton's Fans' Forum also criticized the club's planning and recruitment after the transfer window closed, saying supporters deserved answers after another window marked by late activity and ⁠a failed pursuit ⁠of key targets.

With a thin squad, Moyes said Everton's academy players would have to step up but was unsure if they could fill the gaps.

"Are they ready to make the step up? I'm not sure about that. We will see how that goes, some of them might be pushed in," Moyes said.

"They're all going to have to be able to muck in as we've got a real small squad now," he added.

"It gives opportunities to some people who have not had them and sometimes in football you need to be given that chance so that you can show what you can do. Let's see if some of them can do that."

The Riyadh Region Municipality launched six community sports tournaments across 11 locations in central Riyadh, running throughout September to promote physical activity and foster local engagement across all age groups.

The competitions include neighborhood and volunteer football leagues, along with tournaments in basketball, volleyball, baloot, and dominoes, SPA reported.

Complementing the sports fixtures, more than 15 recreational, educational, and health awareness events are being held in collaboration with 40 public, private, and non-profit entities.

The initiative is part of the municipality's ongoing efforts to activate public spaces, elevate quality of life, and position community centers as vibrant lifestyle hubs.

Liverpool has signed teenage forward Djylian N’Guessan from French side Saint-Etienne, the Premier League club said on Friday.

The 18-year-old is set to join Liverpool on a permanent deal in January, the club said.

Financial details were not given. Liverpool added that N’Guessan will play the rest of the season on loan at Brest in France’s Ligue 1, The Associated Press reported.

After going through Saint-Etienne’s academy, the forward made a senior debut in January 2025 and has played 13 matches, scoring one goal.

He played seven game for France at last year’s under-20 World Cup.

It's not clear what role he could have in the Liverpool squad.

During the summer transfer window, the club's signings have included Spain winger Victor Muñoz from Osasuna and a deal finalized on Monday worth 123 million pounds ($166 million) for Bradley Barcola from Paris Saint-Germain.
