Al-Azhar’s Grand Imam: My Speech Did Not Exclude any Sect at Grozny

Cairo- Al-Azhar’s Grand Imam Dr. Ahmed el-Tayeb reaffirmed the institutionalized rebuttal of the concluding statement made at the Sunni Conference in Grozny, Chechnya in August 2016.

The statement viewed controversial exclusion of Muslim sects and clerics.

Dr. El-Tayeb reiterated that his speech laid at the conference does not exclude any Islamic sect whatsoever and that it has been documented and made public for reference. Most of the speech’s discourse focused on today’s troubled Muslim affairs.

More so, El-Tayeb said that only standing in both unity and solidarity can save Muslims, and that the conference was intended to bring in together all Muslims, keeping them on the same team.

Al-Azhar has already disassociated its body from the strife-spurring statement.

El-Tayeb, Head of Al-Azhar University said at the conference that “terrorists and Islam have no relation whatsoever, instead these terrorists are inclined towards spreading a radical ideology among Muslims, so that Islam is misunderstood world over.”

The conference was attended by clerics from various countries like Russia, Syria, Turkey, India, Britain, Lebanon, Egypt, South Africa and Jordan who were willing to step up their fight against Takfiri Terrorists.

Al-Azhar later sent a senior delegation to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia -which had suffered the negative repercussions of the statement- in solidarity with the country greatly viewed as a cornerstone to Islam as it is home to the Kaaba, a building at the center of Islam’s most sacred mosque, and the most sacred site to Islam.

The delegation had carried out the message that the statement had nothing to do with Al Azhar.
