Turkish authorities have detained nine of the 10 crew of an oil tanker after it collided with a cargo ship that sank off Istanbul, state media reported Thursday.

The ALSU, an empty oil tanker, collided early on Wednesday with the Tugberk Imamoglu, a cargo vessel carrying rolled steel, 18 nautical miles off Silivri district on the western edge of Istanbul province, said AFP.

Officials said the damaged cargo ship sank "very quickly" in about 900 meters (3,000 feet) of sea, with all 10 crew members missing.

The ALSU was not damaged in the collision, the cause of which was not immediately clear.

Anadolu news agency said nine crew members on the ALSU, excluding the cook, had been detained and had given statements to the police.

Search and rescue operations continued with 18 vessels, five helicopters, two unmanned aerial vehicles and an aircraft involved alongside an a navy vessel conducting underwater searches.

The Tugberk Imamoglu is a 90-meter (300-foot) Turkish-flagged cargo ship built in 1990, according to the VesselFinder tracking website.

Authorities said it was carrying 4,200 tons of rolled steel sheets and reinforcing bars at the time of the collision.

The maritime directorate initially said the ALSU was carrying 3,000 tons of motor oil, but later said the tanker was empty, a detail confirmed by the Istanbul governor's office.

US President Donald Trump on Sunday offered his "complete and total" endorsement of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in the country's October 27 elections.

"Please let this Letter serve to represent my Complete and Total Endorsement of Bibi Netanyahu in his upcoming Race for Re-Election as Prime Minister of Israel. BIBI NETANYAHU WILL NEVER LET YOU DOWN!," Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform.

Netanyahu, Israel's longest-serving prime minister who is in a tight race to win a new mandate, quickly acknowledged Trump's gesture.

"Thank you, President Trump, for your tremendous support and for our work together. Together we will complete the mission!" Netanyahu wrote on X.

In his post, Trump described Netanyahu as "a Great Warrior Prime Minister" and ally in the war against Iran that began in late February with a massive bombing campaign but has dragged on as Tehran has retaliated by blocking global energy supplies through the Strait of Hormuz.

Trump asserted that without Netanyahu as Israel's leader, the United States would be alone in combating the threat from the Tehran regime, "with its 51-year-old chant, 'Death to Israel, Death to America! We will destroy the Little Satan and the Big Satan.'"

"If Israel has the wrong Leader, which would be anyone other than Bibi, America will have to do this work ourselves, and I am not inclined to do so," the US president said.

"This is the kind of Partner that the United States of America is demanding of Israel, a Country for which it has done so much," he added.

Iran's ‌offer to the United States to reopen the Strait of Hormuz within seven days is still on the table, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi told Iranian media outlets on Sunday.

Iran presented its proposal in mid-September after an interim ceasefire collapsed. Tehran later acknowledged receiving a US response, but Iran’s security chief said last week negotiations have stalled because Washington failed to address all seven conditions for ‌reopening the strait.

"Our ‌situation is clear and based ‌on the seven-days proposal presented to the US. They shared comments which we are reviewing, but our proposal is still on the table and if there is any honesty on the US part, which there isn't, the way to reopening the Strait of Hormuz is obvious," Araghchi said while in Baghdad ‌for a meeting ‌of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.

Iran's conditions include, among other ‌demands, the lifting of the US blockade on ‌its ports, the lifting of US sanctions on its oil exports as well as ending hostilities on all regional fronts.

If Washington accepts Tehran's conditions, the strait ‌could reopen within six days, with talks resuming the following day, Araghchi said.

A central point of disagreement has been Washington’s insistence on addressing Iran's nuclear program from the outset.

US Vice President JD Vance said earlier this month that Iran must make a "meaningful" reduction in its uranium enrichment capacity to satisfy US demands and end the countries' eight-month war.

Tehran says negotiations should initially focus on reopening the Strait of Hormuz, which before the war carried about a fifth of the global trade in oil and liquefied natural gas (LNG), and restoring security in the waterway.

The Ebola outbreak in Democratic Republic of Congo has spread to an eighth province, North Ubangi, Congo's public health institute said on Sunday, confirming earlier Reuters reporting.

The emergence of cases in the province, which borders Central African Republic, poses a new challenge for health authorities struggling ‌to contain ‌the outbreak.

The National Institute ‌for Biomedical Research confirmed two cases - including one death - in North Ubangi.

Reuters reported on Thursday that two cases were confirmed in the province, citing two health officials. At the time, there was no official statement by Congolese ‌authorities.

North Ubangi ‌becomes the eighth province affected by the outbreak, ‌alongside North Kivu, Ituri, Haut-Uele, ‌Tshopo, Sud-Kivu, Bas-Uele and South Ubangi.

The outbreak, the worst Ebola epidemic in Congo's history, has already spread beyond the country's ‌borders, with cases recorded in Uganda and seven infections confirmed in Kenya this month.

Congo's latest situation report showed 67 new confirmed cases and 26 new deaths in the 24 hours to Oct.16, bringing the cumulative total to 9,415 cases and 4,536 deaths since the outbreak began.

The outbreak remains concentrated in eastern Congo, with Ituri province reporting 44 of the 67 new cases.
