The Palestine Committee of the Arab Parliament convened in Cairo on Thursday to discuss ways of standing with the Palestinian people in Gaza and supporting the Palestinian cause, under the chairmanship of Speaker Adel Al-Asoomi, the Saudi Press Agency reported.
Assaf bin Salem Abu Thuneen, a member of the Shura Council and the Arab Parliament, highlighted the Palestine Committee’s appreciation for countries that have provided humanitarian aid in support of the Palestinian cause.
The committee specifically praised the efforts of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, led by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud, and the Crown Prince, in supporting the Palestinian cause and providing humanitarian and relief assistance to the Palestinian people.
The committee also commended the Kingdom’s political support for Palestine in all international events.
The meeting expressed gratitude to South Africa for its fair and just stance in filing a case against the Israeli occupation at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) regarding its assault on the Palestinian people in Gaza and the occupied territories, said Abu Thuneen.
He further stated that the Arab Parliament plans to convey messages to the parliaments of countries that have supported the Israeli occupation, informing them of condemnation for such positions. The Arab Parliament will emphasize that these parliaments have made themselves complicit in the occupation’s assaults and crimes against the Palestinian people.
During the meeting, participants agreed to change the term “occupation force” for Israel to the “occupying Israeli entity” in official communications and statements issued by the Arab Parliament, Abu Thuneen confirmed.

The occupation of the Golan Heights is a violation of international law, Germany's foreign minister said during a speech in the parliament on Wednesday, after the Israeli government decided at the weekend to double its population on the occupied strategic plateau.

Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock also said she would make clear to Türkiye on a visit on Friday that the rights of Kurds in northern Syria must be protected.

Israel will remain on the strategic Mount Hermon site on the Syrian border until another arrangement is found, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Tuesday.

Israeli troops occupied Mount Hermon when they moved into a demilitarized zone between Syria and the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights following the collapse of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's government this month.

Officials have described the move as a limited and temporary measure to ensure the security of Israel's borders but have given no indication of when the troops might be withdrawn and Defense Minister Israel Katz last week ordered troops to prepare to remain on Mount Hermon over the winter.

Israel's move into the buffer zone created following the 1973 Arab-Israeli war has been criticized as a violation of international agreements by a number of countries and the United Nations, which have called for the troops to be withdrawn.
