Drones of the so-called “Islamic Resistance” in Iraq targeted the Israeli military's Golani observation base in the occupied Palestinian territories, the pro-Iranian militant group said on Monday.

On Sunday, the group said it had launched a drone attack on a target in the Israeli-occupied Jordan Valley.

Iraqi Shiite armed factions, like other pro-Iranian groups, pledged to carry out attacks in solidarity with the Palestinians after Hamas launched its attack on Israel on Oct. 7 last year, triggering the war in Gaza.

The Islamic Resistance in Iraq vowed to escalate its attacks.

In separate statements, the Israeli military said interceptors were launched towards an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) that had been launched from Iraq and was identified crossing into Israeli territory from Syria.

No injuries were reported.

The group said its drones hit a location in the Jordan Valley in the occupied Palestinian territories, but did not elaborate.

Tension in the Middle East has surged since thousands of pagers and walkie-talkies used by members of Lebanon's Hezbollah group exploded in an attack widely blamed on Israel.

Hezbollah and Israel have exchanged some of the heaviest cross-border fire in a conflict running in parallel with the almost year-long Gaza war.

The Trump administration on Tuesday condemned attacks by Sudan's Rapid Support Forces (RSF) on civilians in North Darfur and called for parties in the country's civil war to be held accountable for breaches of international humanitarian law.

"We are deeply alarmed by reports the RSF has deliberately targeted civilians and humanitarian actors in Zamzam and Abu Shouk," US State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce told reporters, referring to two camps in the region where hundreds of thousands of people have been displaced in recent days, according to the UN.

"The belligerents must uphold their obligations under international humanitarian law and must be held accountable," Bruce added.

The war in Sudan erupted in April 2023, sparked by a power struggle between the army and RSF, shattering hopes for a transition to civilian rule.

The warring parties should put down their guns and negotiate a durable peace, said Bruce, who declined to say if the US was conducting diplomacy toward a settlement.

Bruce also declined to say whether the Trump administration agreed with a finding by the State Department under former President Joe Biden that the RSF and allied militias have committed genocide in the conflict.
