Arab Parliament Speaker Mohammed Al-Yamahi welcomed the British Prime Minister’s recent announcement of the United Kingdom’s intention to recognize the State of Palestine in September. He emphasized that such recognition must be unconditional and not hindered by the occupying authorities.
During his meeting with Speaker of the UK House of Commons Lindsay Hoyle, held on the sidelines of the Sixth World Conference of Speakers of Parliament, Al-Yamahi emphasized Britain’s historical responsibility toward the Palestinian people. He stressed that formal recognition of a Palestinian state represents the only viable path to ensuring security and stability in the Middle East.
Al-Yamahi called on the British House of Commons to support the implementation of the prime minister's pledge, asserting that this step would encourage other countries to follow suit.
In response, Hoyle reaffirmed Britain's commitment to a two-state solution, the establishment of a Palestinian state, and the cessation of settlement activities. He stressed that the immediate priorities are an unconditional ceasefire and the urgent delivery of humanitarian aid.
