President Jospeh Aoun affirmed on Monday that efforts will continue and all those responsible for the Beirut blast explosion, regardless of their positions or affiliations, are brought to justice.
“The Lebanese state and its entire institutions are committed to uncover the full truth no matter the hurdles or ranks of those involved. Justice makes no exceptions, and the law applies to everyone without discrimination”, the state-run National News Agency quoted Aoun as saying marking the fifth anniversary of the port explosion.
He added saying that the “heinous” crime, that claimed the lives of over 200 victims, “has shook the conscience of the nation and world...wounded thousands of innocent people, and devastated entire neighborhoods of our beloved capital.”
He assured that “justice will be served and accountability is inevitable.”
The President stressed that all available means will be used to ensure that investigation proceeds with "full transparency and integrity", affirming “continued pressure on all relevant authorities to bring every responsible party to justice, regardless of their position or affiliation.”
The Aug. 4, 2020 blast in Beirut’s port tore through the Lebanese capital after hundreds of tons of ammonium nitrate detonated in a warehouse. The gigantic explosion killed at least 218 people, according to an AP count, wounded more than 6,000 others and devastated large swathes of Beirut, causing billions of dollars in damages.
