Hezbollah on Monday said it reserved the right to self-defense after several Israeli attacks on southern Lebanon despite a truce between the two sides and a US-Israel-Lebanon framework to end hostilities.

In a statement, the group said that it "reiterates that what the enemy has done is a blatant violation of the ceasefire to which it has adhered until now, and that it is monitoring and tracking these violations, and reserves its right to defend its homeland and its people.”

A joint statement by the Israeli prime minister and defense minister on Sunday said the Israeli military has destroyed underground infrastructure used by Hezbollah in a village in southern Lebanon.

The US was informed ahead of the attack, which targeted a 200-meter (656-ft)-long tunnel in the town of Majdal Zoun, according to the statement from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz.

The framework agreement provides for a phased Israeli withdrawal from some parts of southern Lebanon alongside the deployment of the Lebanese army, although Israeli forces would be permitted to remain in an expanded security zone for the time being.

The Israeli statement said the tunnel contained hundreds of weapons and launchers. The attack comes hours after the Israeli military said it struck Hezbollah militants armed with rocket-propelled grenades and hit a rocket launcher in the Nabatieh area of southern Lebanon.

Hezbollah leader Naim Qassem has rejected the security agreement, describing it as a surrender to Israel. He said the group would continue its armed resistance.

Netanyahu said in his statement late on Sunday that the Israeli military would remain in the security zone in southern Lebanon and will "continue to destroy terrorist infrastructure, remove threats from the northern communities, and safeguard the security of Israel's citizens."

Israel said on Sunday it was revoking the diplomatic status of Dutch diplomats who represent the Netherlands at the Ramallah-based Palestinian Authority, in response to Dutch sanctions targeting Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank.

Israel earlier this month ordered the closure of the British Consulate in East Jerusalem, which is Britain's representative with the Palestinian Authority, after London announced similar sanctions banning the import of goods from settlements.

Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon ‌Saar said on ‌X that Dutch diplomats operating in ‌Ramallah must return their Israeli-issued diplomatic documentation within seven days, when their diplomatic privileges and immunities are due to expire.

"Any country that acts in a hostile and unilateral manner against Israel will lose influence and relevance in the region," Saar said.

The Dutch Foreign Ministry declined to comment. The Netherlands' ban on imports of goods produced ‌in settlements came into effect ‌last week.

Israel in August banned Dutch diplomats from a US-led coordination ‌center for Gaza that is based in ‌Israel, over what the foreign minister described as "anti-Israel measures."

Many countries, including the Netherlands, have long had diplomats who represent their governments with the Palestinian Authority in Ramallah while living in ‌East Jerusalem.

Israel has traditionally accredited those diplomats and granted them certain privileges under the Vienna Convention on treatment of diplomatic missions.

France and Canada joined Britain this month in announcing a ban on goods from settlements, but Israel has not taken any action against those two countries.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's right-wing government has found itself diplomatically isolated from many of its allies over its conduct in recent years in Gaza and the West Bank.

Two prominent Israeli cabinet ministers have been sanctioned by several countries, while Spain, Ireland and others have also announced a ban on goods originating from settlements.

Syria said on Sunday that its forces had arrested four leaders and several members of an ISIS group cell that was planning attacks.

Security and intelligence forces "dismantled a cell affiliated with the ISIS terrorist organization that was involved in carrying out kidnappings, planting explosive devices, and assassinations", state television reported the internal security forces as saying.

"Four leaders of the cell", the statement said, were arrested in north Syria's Raqqa "alongside a number of its members in Aleppo, Idlib and Homs".

The cell was also "planning terrorist acts targeting the security and stability of the region", it said, adding that explosives, weapons and ammunition were seized in the "pre-emptive operation", with investigations ongoing.

Last year, Syria's new authorities, who ousted longtime ruler Bashar al-Assad in 2024, joined a US-led coalition against ISIS.

The authorities have faced significant security challenges, and regularly announce the arrest of ISIS commanders or members, including the capture last month of an extremist commander in the country's north.

Once in control of swathes of Syria and Iraq, ISIS was territorially defeated in Syria in 2019, but remnants of the group are still present there, particularly in the country's vast desert.

The group occasionally claims attacks, mainly targeting Syrian security forces.

Syria has blamed the extremists for bomb blasts in July during a visit by French President Emmanuel Macron. Authorities said they had arrested the cell responsible.

Israel's far-right finance minister Bezalel Smotrich called on Sunday for the annexation of areas of south Lebanon and the Gaza Strip currently under Israeli military control and for Israeli forces to "go to war" against Palestinians in the occupied West Bank, reported AFP.

"I would like us to annex at least as far as the Yellow Line in Gaza (which demarcates the areas under Hamas and Israeli control) and as far as the Litani River in Lebanon... because if a war ends along the same lines where it began, what will deter the enemy from going to war again," Smotrich said in a podcast for Israeli news site Ynet.

"I think we need to go to war in Judea and Samaria, to dismantle the Palestinian Authority that supports terror," he added, using the biblical term for the West Bank.

Smotrich is the leader of a far-right party that advocates the annexation of the entire West Bank, which has been occupied by Israel since 1967.

The West Bank has seen a surge in violence since the outbreak of war in the Gaza Strip following Hamas's attack on Israel on October 7, 2023.

More than 500,000 Israelis live in West Bank settlements, which are illegal under international law, in the Palestinian territory among some three million Palestinians.
