Unemployment rate among Saudi women registered a remarkable decline in the fourth quarter of 2022, reaching 15.4 percent, in parallel with the expansion of women’s economic participation in the Saudi labor market.
According to the report of the Saudi General Authority for Statistics (GASTAT), the ratio of employed women to the population in the fourth quarter of 2022 increased to 30.4 percent, compared with 27.6 percent in the same period in 2021, reflecting their growing economic engagement. Female labor force participation increased to 36 percent, up from 35.6 percent in the fourth quarter of 2021.
The results of the report showed an increase in female self-employment, the number of self-employed females reached 961,189 in the same period, compared to 105,518 in 2021 and 7,997 in 2019.
Similarly, the stock market has recently witnessed a great female turnout. The number of Saudi female investors in the stock market in 2021 reached 1,516,995, which is higher than the previous two years 2019 and 2020.
The importance of the report lies in the number and diversity of statistical indicators pertaining to Saudi women aged 15 years and over, in various fields such as education, health, sports, technology, and a number of other statistics.
The report relied on a set of statistical indicators, and was based on the outcome of a number of surveys, in addition to record data and the results of the 2022 census.
According to the report, young age groups constituted the highest percentage among the age categories. The number of young females aged between 15 and 19 reached 916,439, while that of women between 20 and 24 amounted to 850,780.
The results of the report indicated that the percentage of women (15 years and over) practicing physical activity for at least 30 minutes per week amounted to 38.7 percent in 2021, which is the highest compared to 2019 and 2020.
The highest percentage of women, who practice physical activity for at least 30 minutes per week, was among the 20-24 age group, a rate of 43.13 percent, followed by the age group of 25-29 with a rate of 42.88 per cent.
