Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly said that launching investment funds in metals, including gold, was aimed at providing investment opportunities that meet the needs of various segments of society.
He added that the funds contribute to hedging against the risks of price fluctuations through regulated and safe investment, and come within the framework of the economic reform efforts pursued by the Egyptian state across the different economic fields and sectors.
Madbouly was speaking during a session to review a report prepared by the Financial Regulatory Authority regarding the launch of the first gold investment fund.
“The launch of these funds comes within the framework of the state’s move towards empowering the private sector. The gold investment fund is only the beginning of more funds and other financial instruments. It will also contribute to attracting new investments and connecting the Egyptian market to global markets,” the prime minister said.
According to the report, the Head of Financial Supervision, Mohamed Farid Saleh, noted that the establishment of the first gold investment fund comes as a continuation of the authority’s efforts to support the government’s directions aimed at enhancing levels of financial and investment inclusion, and working to build an advanced non-banking financial sector that stimulates economic growth.
He added that the gold investment fund represented the first tranche of a number of other funds in precious metals, which will be established with the aim of achieving appropriate returns that are compatible with the investment policy of various segments of society.
He pointed out that subscription to the first gold investment fund, called (az-Gold), began in May.
