The Joint Ministerial Monitoring Committee of OPEC+ has kept the oil output policy unchanged, stating readiness to take additional measures at any time.
The JMMC reviewed the crude oil production data for November and December 2023 and noted the high conformity for participating OPEC and non-OPEC countries of the Declaration of Cooperation (DoC), according to a statement issued following the 52nd Meeting of the Committee on Thursday.
The Committee will continue to monitor the conformity of the production adjustments decided upon at the 35th ONOMM held on 4 June 2023, the additional voluntary production adjustments announced by some participating OPEC and participating non-OPEC countries in April 2023, and the subsequent adjustments in November 2023.
Moreover, it will continue to closely assess market conditions.
Building on the strong cohesion between OPEC and participating non-OPEC oil-producing countries, the Committee noted the willingness of the DoC countries to address market developments and their readiness to take additional measures at any time.
The next meeting of the JMMC is scheduled for 3 April 2024.
Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak said Thursday that the OPEC+ group is ready to act to support the oil market at "any moment" as Middle East tensions and other risks may require action.
He made the televised comments following a meeting of an OPEC+ panel which proposed no changes to the group's oil output plans.
Two OPEC+ sources told Reuters that OPEC+ will decide in March whether or not to extend voluntary oil production cuts in place for the first quarter.
"It is very important that there is constant monitoring of the current situation so that at any moment we can make joint decisions to adjust our joint actions aimed at balancing the market," Novak said, citing Middle East tensions and attacks on vessels in the Red Sea.
"Obviously, the market situation is greatly influenced today by what is happening in the Middle East," he added, while also saying that the global market is stable on the whole.
Iraq
The Iraqi minister of Oil, Hayan Abdul Ghani, announced that the OPEC+ JMMC did not change the group's output policy regarding oil production, according to Iraq News Agency.
Ammar al-Anbagi, director-general of Iraq's oil marketing company (SOMO), emphasized that the meeting's decision to maintain existing production levels aims to enhance stability and balance in global markets, ensuring a steady equilibrium between supply and demand.
For his part, Algerian Minister of Energy and Mines Mohamed Arkab reassured that OPEC+ members are diligently and consistently monitoring the international oil market’s evolution, considering the uncertainties impacting its fundamentals.
He highlighted the risks associated with global economic growth, including the slowdown in industrialized nations’ activities and the modest rebound in emerging economies, which could potentially affect oil demand despite a widely available supply in the market.
