Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan arrived Tuesday in Doha on an official visit to the country, where he met with Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani.

The two leaders discussed bilateral relations and ways to strengthen and upgrade them in a variety of fields, in addition to tackling regional and international developments, according to Qatar’s official news agency, QNA.

They also exchanged opinions and perspectives on a number of issues of common concern.

The two sides agreed to intensify the work of the joint technical teams to identify shared investment opportunities, QNA said.

The visit of the Turkish President coincides with the 50th anniversary of the establishment of Qatari-Turkish diplomatic relations and it comes as Türkiye celebrates this year the centenary of the founding of the Turkish Republic.

On July 8, Turkish Vice President Cevdet Yilmaz visited Doha and met with the Emir to prepare for Erdogan’s visit.

Over the past years, the relationship between Türkiye and Qatar has witnessed a remarkable development in various fields.

In October 2022, the Qatari Emir and the Turkish President chaired the meeting of the 8th session of the Qatari-Turkish Supreme Strategic Committee at the Dolmabahce Palace in Istanbul.

During the meeting, both sides discussed the strong strategic relations in various fields, especially politics, trade, economic and investment partnership, energy, industry, transportation, education and media, in addition to strengthening cooperation in the health and tourism sector and projects related to hosting the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.

Ever since Qatar and Türkiye signed an Agreement on the Establishment of the Higher Strategic Committee in 2014, the two countries have inked 95 agreements over diplomatic, economic, cultural and educational ties.

Türkiye is one of Qatar's most important trading partners, with the volume of trade exchange between the two countries in 2022 witnessing a growth of 18 percent to reach QAR 8 billion, compared to QAR 6.8 billion in 2021.

There are approximately 182 companies with Qatari capital in Türkiye with a value of $33.2 billion.

More than 711 Turkish companies operate in Qatar, including 664 companies with Qatari and Turkish capital and 47 companies with 100 percent Turkish capital, in addition to 15 Turkish companies operating in the free zone in Qatar.

The Qatar Investment Authority currently has three Mega projects in Türkiye.
