Saudi Arabia Hands Swedish Charge d'Affaires Note of Protest over 'Desecration' of Quran

Saudi Arabia summoned the Swedish charge d'affaires in Riyadh and handed them a note of protest over the "desecration" of the Quran, the Saudi foreign ministry said in a statement.

The ministry handed him a protest note calling on the Swedish authorities “to take immediate and necessary measures to stop these disgraceful acts, which violate all religious teachings, international laws and norms.”

The kingdom also condemned a planned burning of the Quran in Stockholm, the statement added.

Saudi Arabia reaffirmed the Kingdom’s rejection of all actions that encourage religious hatred.

Saudi Minister of Foreign Affairs Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah has met with Italian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Antonio Tajani.

Monday’s meeting took place on the sidelines of the Saudi minister's participation in the expanded session of the second Group of Seven (G7) Foreign Ministers’ Meeting held in Fiuggi, Italy.

The two sides discussed relations between the two countries and explored ways to enhance cooperation across various fields. They also exchanged views on regional and international issues of mutual interest.

Prince Faisal and Canadian Minister of Foreign Affairs Mélanie Joly also met in Fiuggi.
