The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has issued a statement on the occasion of the 106th anniversary of the Balfour Declaration, in which it expressed its reverence and appreciation for the steadfastness and sacrifices of the Palestinian people over decades, reaffirming its permanent commitment to supporting their just struggle to restore their legitimate national rights, The Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported.
"Today marks the 106th anniversary of the issuance of the fateful promise by former British Foreign Secretary Arthur Balfour on November 02, 1917. This declaration marked the beginning of the tragic and catastrophic events that occurred in 1948, that ultimately led to the displacement of the Palestinian people, the rightful owners of the land and rights. It resulted in the denial of their legitimate rights and establishment of the Israeli colonial occupation state based on colonial settlement policies, military aggression, forced displacement, ethnic cleansing, land confiscation, property destruction, and the Judaization of the Holy City of Al-Quds," the statement said.

It added: "This painful anniversary coincides with the ongoing crises in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, especially in the Gaza Strip, which is witnessing the escalation of killings, organized terrorism, displacement, and the deliberate destruction of residential buildings, schools, hospitals, places of worship, and infrastructure. These actions constitute war crimes and crimes against humanity perpetrated by the Israeli occupation."

The OIC called upon the international community to correct this historical injustice, shoulder its responsibilities in ending the Israeli occupation, and enable the Palestinian people to regain their legitimate rights, including their right to return and realize the establishment of their independent state on the borders of June 04, 1967, with East Al-Quds as its capital.

"This should be achieved," the statement said, within the framework of the vision of a two-state solution based on the relevant United Nations resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative.

The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) joined on Sunday the global community to celebrate World Humanitarian Day, paying tribute to the bravery and sacrifices of humanitarian workers.

The day honors those who risk their lives and well-being to save and protect others in some of the world’s most challenging environments.

This year, World Humanitarian Day underscores the pressing humanitarian challenges across the Islamic world, highlighting the need for coordinated and intensified efforts to tackle the multifaceted impacts of crises.

OIC reiterated its unwavering commitment to boosting and coordinating collective Islamic humanitarian initiatives rooted in Islamic principles in line with the organization's charter and resolutions aimed at responding to crises and developing effective mechanisms to that end.

Expressing gratitude to the member states, donors, and partners, OIC acknowledged their significant contributions in alleviating the adverse effects of crises on affected communities, including those hosting refugees.

In a bid to further mobilize resources, the OIC announced a donor conference, scheduled for October 26 aimed at assisting refugees and displaced persons in the Sahel and Lake Chad regions.

The organization called on international partners to participate in this collective effort to improve the conditions of millions affected by humanitarian crises in these troubled areas.
