Emir of Kuwait Sheikh Meshal al-Ahmad Al Jaber Al Sabah is set to kick off an official visit to Saudi Arabia on Tuesday.

Saudi Arabia and Kuwait enjoy close ties between their people and leaderships, which have always sought to deepen these relations. The neighbors also share common views over several issues, including Gulf affairs.

The establishment of the Saudi-Kuwaiti coordination council is a reflection of these close ties. Formed in 2018, the council has adopted a moderate political approach and seeks to achieve security and stability for the Saudi and Kuwaiti people.

The council aims to set a common vision that would work on deepening relations between Saudi Arabia and Kuwait that would align with the goals of the Gulf Cooperation Council and bolster economic integration. It would seek innovative solutions for the optimal use of resources and cooperation and integration in political, security and military affairs.

The neighbors are aiming to increase the trade exchange between them, which in 2021 stood at 6.993 billion riyals.

Saudi Arabia strongly condemned the attacks targeting the residences of the leader of autonomous Iraqi Kurdistan, Nechirvan Barzani, and the attacks targeting Iraqi Kurdistan, the Saudi Press Agency reported Sunday.

The Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs said a statement: "Saudi Arabia emphasizes its rejection of anything that threatens the security and stability of Iraq and affirms its solidarity with Iraq and the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, as well as its support for their security and stability."

Since the launch of the US-Israeli offensive against Iran on February 28, Iraq has been drawn into a regional conflict it has sought to avoid.

Pro-Iranian groups in Iraq claim responsibility on a daily basis for drone attacks and rocket strikes targeting the US military presence, both within Iraq and elsewhere in the Middle East.

These attacks have targeted the US Embassy in Baghdad and personnel for an international anti-extremist coalition deployed in Iraq.
