Kuwait imposed sanctions on Hezbollah’s financial arm, Al-Qard al-Hassan Association, on Monday.
The move was announced by the Foreign Ministry’s committee tasked with implementing UN Security Council resolutions under Chapter VII of the UN Charter.
The committee added Hezbollah and its affiliated association, which is often described as the group’s “bank,” to its sanctions list. Three individuals of Lebanese, Tunisian, and Somali nationalities were also designated.
The listing includes asset freezes and restrictions on economic resources, in line with articles 21, 22, and 23 of the committee’s executive regulations.
The ministry directed all financial institutions and companies in Kuwait to enforce the new measures immediately.
Al-Qard al-Hassan is already under US sanctions and has faced increasing scrutiny over its role in financing Hezbollah’s activities.
Earlier this month, Lebanon’s Central Bank Governor Karim Souaid issued a directive banning local banks and financial institutions from dealing with the association.
