GACA: Resident Killed, 11 Others Wounded in Two New Attacks on Riyadh, Dammam Airports

The Saudi General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) said that the King Khalid International Airport in the capital, Riyadh, and King Fahd International Airport in Dammam came under new attacks on Sunday, with the first resulting in the death of a resident and the injury of 11 others. 

In two separate statements, GACA said work was underway to complete the damage assessment and verify the safety of the facilities in coordination with the relevant authorities. 

A follow-up statement, GACA added that the attack on the Riyadh airport resulted in the death of a Pakistani resident and injuries to 11 other people, who were immediately transferred to the hospital to receive the necessary medical care, in addition to material damage that is currently being assessed. 

The Coalition to Restore Legitimacy in Yemen announced that air defenses intercepted and destroyed a cruise missile in the vicinity of King Khalid Airport on Sunday, as well as a drone in the Eastern Region. 

Major General Turki Al-Malki, spokesperson for the Coalition, said that an attack involving an unidentified projectile took place at Passenger Terminal 4 at the Riyadh airport. 

At dawn on Sunday, he announced the interception and destruction of a ballistic missile launched by the Houthi militia toward Al-Kharj governorate, along with a drone in the Eastern Region.

Nine relief trucks carrying 3,240 food baskets provided by Saudi Arabia’s King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief) arrived on Saturday in the Aden Governorate, ahead of distribution to the most vulnerable families as part of the emergency response project in Yemen.

The assistance reflects Saudi Arabia’s ongoing relief efforts, delivered through KSrelief, to support food security and meet the basic needs of affected and displaced families in Yemen.

Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud sent on Sunday a written invitation to Sultan Haitham bin Tarik of Oman to participate in the second GCC-EU Summit, which Saudi Arabia will host in October.

Saudi Ambassador to Oman Ibrahim bin Saad bin Bishan delivered the invitation during a meeting with Oman's Foreign Ministry Undersecretary for Political Affairs Sheikh Khalifa Alharthy.

Saudi, Iranian FMs Discuss Regional Tensions as UK, Syria Condemn Houthi Attack

Saudi Minister of Foreign Affairs Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah received on Sunday a phone call from his Iranian counterpart Abbas Araghchi.

The ministers discussed the recent escalation in the region and efforts to address it.

Prince Faisal also received a phone call from British Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs Ed Miliband to discuss bilateral relations, regional developments, and joint efforts by the two countries to address tensions and mitigate their security and economic repercussions.

The call also addressed Houthi militia attacks on King Khalid International Airport.

Miliband underscored the UK's condemnation of Houthi acts of violence targeting Yemen and civilian facilities in Saudi Arabia, expressing the UK's solidarity with both Saudi Arabia and the Yemeni government in confronting these attacks.

Prince Faisal also received a telephone call from his Syrian counterpart Asaad al-Shaibani for talks on regional developments and joint efforts to support regional security and stability.

Shaibani expressed Damascus’ condemnation of the Houthi attack on Riyadh, saying the Kingdom’s security is indivisible to Syria’s and the entire region.

Prince Faisal received a phone call from Bahraini Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdullatif bin Rashid Al-Zayani. 

Al-Zayani conveyed Bahrain's sincere condolences to Saudi Arabia over the deaths of citizens and residents in the “heinous terrorist attack” by the Houthi militia. 

He affirmed Bahrain's “full solidarity with Saudi Arabia and its complete support for all measures the Kingdom takes to safeguard its sovereignty, security, and stability, and protect its citizens and residents.” 

The two ministers also discussed regional developments and their countries' efforts to maintain the region's security and stability.
