An official in the Yemeni foreign ministry confirmed the support of the 18 countries sponsoring peace in Yemen to reach a political solution that complies with the three references and help the country resolve the current crisis.
This support was expressed during the meetings that were held by UN envoy to Yemen Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed in Riyadh with the Yemeni government and the ambassadors of the 18 countries in the past few days.
Despite the support the Yemeni government has received by the international community to end the political crisis, the country still relies on the pressure put by the international community on the insurgents, especially that Ould Cheikh will soon visit Sanaa to meet both coup parties, Houthi and Saleh militias, and propose all the ideas.
Undersecretary of Yemen's Ministry of Foreign Affairs Dr. Mansour Bajash said the government is waiting for the outcomes of Ould Cheikh’s meetings in the region, including those that will take place in Sanaa.
The Yemeni government is moving in all directions to support the peace process and win the support of the international community, Bajash told Asharq Al-Awsat.
During the meeting with the ambassadors of the 18 countries that are sponsoring the peace process in Yemen, the government has witnessed a positive response reflected in the consensus among the international community on the importance of reaching a political solution that comes in line with the three references, Bajash added.
He explained that the three references are the outcomes of the national dialogue, the Gulf initiative and its operational mechanisms and UN resolution 2216 in addition to the countries helping Yemen to ease its humanitarian crisis and end the suffering of Yemeni citizens in all the cities.
In case the political solutions fail, the Yemeni official stressed that the Yemeni government will rely on the Saudi-led Coalition to guarantee a military solution for the Yemeni crisis.
