The Bahraini Ministry of Interior announced on Monday that based on national security requirements, visas were imposed on Qatari citizens and residents. This may result in some delays, possibly impacting the movement of families with relatives in the two countries.
Bahrain stressed that it had taken such measures to maintain its security and stability after Doha’s breach of Gulf security policies, by facilitating the entry of nationalities that posed threats to the security in the region and exempting foreign nationals from visa entry into its territories.
Assistant Undersecretary of the Bahraini Ministry of Interior for Nationality, Passports and Residence said that the new measures fell within the framework of maintaining the requirements of national security and taking all necessary actions to confront any threat to the security and stability of Bahrain, especially in light of the consolidated cooperation and coordination between Qatar and Iran.
In October, Bahrain announced its intention to impose entry visas on Qatari residents and citizens, within a plan to tighten security measures.
“The new measures aim at preventing harming the security and stability of the kingdom of Bahrain particularly in light of the latest repercussions of the crisis with Qatar,” said a statement from the official Bahraini news agency BNA.
