Some medicines will be exempt from the value-added tax (VAT) in Saudi Arabia, reported the Saudi Press Agency on Saturday.

Some types of medical equipment will also be exempt from the 5 percent VAT the Kingdom plans to impose starting January 1, 2018.

All other private health care services will be taxed at the standard rate, said SPA, citing directives issued by the General Authority of Zakat and Tax, the Ministry of Health and the General Authority for Food and Drug Affairs.

The list of exempt medicine and equipment will be posted on the Ministry and authority websites.
