Sudan summoned its ambassador to Egypt for consultation, without specifying the reason or how long he would stay.

In a statement issued by Sudan's Foreign Ministry, Sudan "decided on Thursday to recall Sudan ambassador to Cairo Abdel-Mahmood Abdel Halim to Khartoum for consultation.”

The Egyptian Embassy has been officially notified on Wednesday, and is now assessing the stance to take the right procedure, commented the Egyptian Foreign Ministry in a statement.

Relations have been soured by disputes over the ownership of the Halayeb  Triangle border area, and over the use of the water from the River Nile that passes through their territories.

Sudan has accused Cairo of political meddling and banned imports of Egyptian agricultural products last year.

Cairo denied the claims circulating on Ethiopian news media that Egypt requested the exclusion of Sudan from negotiations on the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam, adding that during Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry’s visit to Ethiopia, Egypt submitted a proposal requesting introducing the World Bank as a neutral mediator in negotiations.

The United Nations warned Saturday that dire fuel shortages in the Gaza Strip had reached "critical levels", threatening to dramatically increase the suffering in the war-ravaged Palestinian territory.

"After almost two years of war, people in Gaza are facing extreme hardships, including widespread food insecurity, seven UN agencies cautioned in a joint statement.

"When fuel runs out, it places an unbearable new burden on a population teetering on the edge of starvation," the statement added.
