Saudi Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir held talks in Paris on Tuesday night with his counterparts from Britain, the United States and United Arab Emirates on regional developments, particularly the situation in Yemen and Syria.

The meeting was called for British FM Boris Johnson and was held at his country’s embassy in the French capital.

Jubeir, Johnson, US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson and UAE Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan were in Paris where they attended a ministerial meeting that saw the launch of an international initiative against Syria’s chemical weapons program.

Johnson said in a statement that the conflict in each of Yemen and Syria cannot be resolved through military solutions.

Only a peaceful political solution can end the suffering, he stressed.

A senior US State Department official said that talks focused on joint decisive efforts in Yemen and, above all else, facilitating the delivery of humanitarian aid to the people.

He hailed in this regard Saudi Arabia’s latest initiatives on Yemen. On Monday, the foreign ministers of the Arab Coalition announced that the Kingdom would fund $1.5 billion worth of humanitarian operations in the war-torn country.

“This will allow us to tackle other goals such as finding a political solution to the conflict and a strategy to counter Iran’s influence in the country,” the US official continued.

He stressed that the proliferation of Iranian-made weapons must end, warning of consequences if it did not.
