UAE President Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan received on Monday condolences from Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi Ruler's Representative in the Al Ain Region Sheikh Tahnoun bin Mohammed Al Nahyan, and members of Al Nahyan family on the death of the late Sheikha Hessa bint Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Nahyan at al-Bateen Palace.
The reception was also attended by UAE President's Adviser Sheikh Sultan bin Khalifa Al Nahyan and Executive Council Member Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Nahyan.
On Sunday, Ministry of Presidential Affairs announced the death of Sheikha Hessa in a statement: “In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate.
His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the President of the UAE, mourns the death of Her Highness the late Sheikha Hessa bint Mohammed Al Nahyan, who passed away today.”
The ministry also announced three days of official mourning which began on Sunday, with flags to be flown at half mast.
Sheikha Hessa was the first wife of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the first president of UAE in 1971.
In 1948, she gave birth to Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed, who became president after Sheikh Zayed's death in 2004. Sheikh Khalifa is also the ruler of Abu Dhabi, UAE's capital.
