UAE, China Sign 13 Agreements and MoUs

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, and President Xi Jinping of China, oversaw on Friday the signing of 13 agreements and memoranda of understanding (MoU), between the two countries with the aim to strengthen strategic partnerships and bilateral cooperation across various sectors, reported the Emirates news agency (WAM).

A number of Sheikhs, ministers and senior officials, as well as Ali Obaid Al Dhaheri, Ambassador of the UAE to the People's Republic of China, and Ambassador Ni Jian of China to the UAE, also attended the signing event.

The Agreements and MoUs included two memoranda of understanding on the construction of embassies and other buildings, as well as the establishment of cultural centers.

An MoU to advance energy cooperation between the UAE Ministry of Energy and Industry, and China's National Energy Commission was signed by Suhail bin Mohammed Faraj Faris Al Mazrouei, Minister of Energy and Industry, and He Lifeng, Vice Chairperson of Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, CPPCC, and Chairman of National Development and Reform Commission, NDRC.

Two MoUs to enhance e-commerce ties as well as greater cooperation at the China International Import Expo were signed by Sultan bin Saeed Al Mansouri, Minister of Economy, and Zhong Shan, Minister of Commerce.

Other MoUs covered agricultural cooperation, as well as cooperation on the Silk Road Initiative and the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road Initiative.

A strategic cooperation agreement between the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company and China National Petroleum Company was signed by Dr. Sultan bin Ahmad Sultan Al Jaber, Minister of State and Chief Executive Officer of Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) and its Group of Companies and Wang Yilin Chairman at China National Petroleum Corp.

Other agreements covered customs issues, financial services and innovation within the framework of the Belt and Road initiatives and partnership and investment in the world's largest solar energy project.

An earthquake struck Saudi Arabia’s Eastern Region on Wednesday.

Spokesperson for the Saudi Geological Survey (SGS) Tariq Aba Al-Khail said no damage casualties were reported in the 4.0-magnitude quake.

The earthquake resulted from tectonic stresses from the collision of the Arabian and Eurasian geological plates in the Zagros Mountains of Iran, which activated existing faults in the Earth's crust in Eastern Region of the Kingdom, he said.

Saudi Minister of Foreign Affairs Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah met in Riyadh with Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the King Faisal Center for Research and Islamic Studies Prince Turki bin Faisal bin Abdulaziz, along with members of the Oxford Centre’s board of trustees.

During the meeting, they reviewed areas of cooperation in intellectual and cultural initiatives aimed at fostering dialogue, promoting tolerance, coexistence, and mutual understanding, and supporting efforts to advance moderation and centrism, reported the Saudi Press Agency on Wednesday.

Saudi Minister of Foreign Affairs Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah held telephone talks on Tuesday with his Malaysian counterpart Mohamad Haji Hasan.

They discussed bilateral relations between their countries, the latest developments, and issues of common interest.
