Kuwait Emir Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmad Al-Sabah sent on Saturday a cable of condolences to US President Donald Trump over the death of former President George W.H. Bush.
"On behalf of the Kuwaiti government and people, I express my deepest condolences and utmost sympathy,” he said.
He praised Bush's "historic and courageous stance... and his rejection of Iraq's occupation of Kuwait from the early hours".
His support "will remain in Kuwait's collective memory and will not be forgotten," he added.
Bush died on Friday at the age of 94.
After Iraq invaded Kuwait in August 1990, Bush led an international coalition that liberated Kuwait in February 1991.
