Kuwait Discusses Receiving French Military Equipment

Kuwaiti officials discussed with France's Defense Minister Florence Barley on Tuesday the Kuwaiti military institution's need for French military equipment.

Kuwaiti Emir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al Sabah received a cable from French President Emmanuel Macron, conveyed by Barley.

First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense Sheikh Nasser Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah said that he discussed with the visiting minister the Kuwaiti military's need to be supplied with French arms and equipment.

He added that Kuwaiti officials are coordinating with their French counterparts regarding the matter.

Barley affirmed the French quest to develop joint military projects.

Kuwait’s national guards and French forces held the successful Pearl of West 2018 maneuvers, she said, noting that cooperation fields between the two friendly countries are diverse.

The Kuwaiti Defense Ministry revealed that topics of joint interest, mainly military issues, were discussed during the meeting.

Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Secretary-General Jasem Albudaiwi extended his congratulations to Joseph Aoun on his election as Lebanon's president.
Albudaiwi extended his heartfelt wishes for Aoun’s success in meeting the aspirations of the Lebanese people, particularly in achieving stability, prosperity, and development. He also emphasized the GCC's commitment to further strengthening the longstanding and historic relations between the Council and Lebanon.
Albudaiwi reaffirmed the GCC's unwavering stance, as outlined in the final statement of the 46th Extraordinary Meeting of the GCC Ministerial Council, in support of the Lebanese people.
He emphasized the Council's continued commitment to Lebanon’s sovereignty, security, and stability, along with its steadfast support for the Lebanese Armed Forces in safeguarding the country’s borders.

Albudaiwi also highlighted the critical importance of fully implementing United Nations Security Council Resolution 1701, which aims to restore lasting security and stability in Lebanon and ensure respect for its territorial integrity.
He reiterated the importance of the Lebanese government exercising full control over all Lebanese territories, in line with the relevant Security Council resolutions and the provisions of the Taif Agreement.
