Yemen’s Islah Party Calls for Forming Small Cabinet

Yemen’s al-Islah party has called for the formation of a small cabinet that brings together various political parties and for holding a national conference to combat extremism and terrorism.

The party also stressed the importance of confronting the Houthi militias to end the coup.

Its statement came on the 29th anniversary of the establishment of al-Islah which has the second largest bloc in the Yemeni parliament.

Party leader Mohammed Abdullah al-Yadumi called in a speech for the formation of a small cabinet, whose members would be selected on the bases of national partnership, efficiency, and integrity to run the phase stipulated by the Gulf Initiative.

Yadumi warned against attempts to form the cabinet against the people’s will, stressing the party's rejection of extremism and terrorism in all its forms and means.

He said al-Islah backs the legitimate leadership represented in Yemeni President Abdrabbuh Mansour Hadi and the Saudi-led Arab Coalition, and slammed the sides that view such support as an attempt to serve the party’s interests.

Yadumi further expressed confidence in the Kingdom’s ability to contain the repercussions of the rebellion in the interim capital Aden and to guarantee the return of the state’s role in the city.

He renewed the party’s stance from a comprehensive peace based on the three references represented in the Gulf initiative, its executive mechanism, outcomes of the national dialogue and relevant UN resolutions, mainly resolution 2216.

The head of the party also accused the international community of leniency with the intransigence of the Houthis that he said have chosen war and have caused the suffering of the Yemeni people.

The Israeli military said on Tuesday it had intercepted a projectile launched from Yemen that crossed into Israeli territory.

Sirens had earlier sounded in several areas of Israel.

The Iran-backed Houthi group has repeatedly fired drones and missiles towards Israel in what it has described as acts of solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza.

The firing of the projectile came after Israel resumed airstrikes against targets in Gaza that killed more than 400 people, according to Palestinian health authorities, in an onslaught that ended weeks of relative calm after talks to secure a permanent ceasefire stalled.
