The Egyptian government is deploying intensive efforts to develop slum areas, which represent a major challenge in the residential and real estate field.
Along with the construction of new urban communities, the government is working to develop existing residences in areas that have been classified as severely hazardous and not suitable for housing.
Well-informed sources told Asharq Al-Awsat said that the government was hoping to eliminate slums by 2030.
In this context, Prime Minister Dr. Mustafa Madbouly, underlined in remarks on Thursday the importance of abiding by the timetables for the implementation and delivery of social and medium housing units, and the development of slum areas, within a project implemented by the Ministry of Housing.
“The State has achieved a great leap in this file, and we received international recognition on that,” he stated.
Madbouly held a meeting on Thursday with Dr. Assem Al-Jazzar, the Minister of Housing, Utilities and Urban Communities, to follow up on a number of projects, in the presence of concerned officials.
The prime minister underlined the need to intensify work on a new project, called the Central Park, in the new administrative capital, stressing its importance as “a major civilized development that would offer a common space for the different segments of the society.”
He went on to say that the new park would contribute to creating a new environment and achieving a high quality of life for the citizens and add great value to the surrounding areas.
